    Re: Pre NAMM discussion

Case in point, er rather point in case...
  2. Re: Andrew Marlin "Cody Road" Artist Session at GMBR

Thanks, that was a treat! Love the tune. Some nice close up shots too of Andrew and Dom picking those fine mandos.

    Re: Mom's miniature parlor

That’s an impressive miniature parlor. My wife is also into miniatures. Here’s an Irish cottage interior she created (with mandolin content).

Re: Prettiest A model I have seen in a while

Fair enough. I’ll just have to be patient.

Re: Prettiest A model I have seen in a while

Mary, since you’re talking voicing, could you compare/contrast the Ellis to your Heiden?

Re: Prettiest A model I have seen in a while

Too dry Mary? I never heard that before. I would not describe my Ellis and the half dozen others I’ve played as dry. Interesting. Maybe in a relative sense...Enjoy it.

    Re: Your MAS Progression

Well that’s no fun Dem. Watching your journey has become a spectator sport for some of us.

    Re: Campanella Mandolins

    Demetrius,

Just curious about your MAS. You went through a pretty serious Gil MAS, then Stiver, and now Campanella. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. ;) Are you looking for sonic...

Re: Irish Music Tours -- suggestions

    Dave,

I went on a southwest Ireland music tour with Inishfree last year and had a fabulous time. We toured quaint villages and countryside by day and caught intimate ITM in the pubs every evening....

Re: Video of stolen 10 string guitar bouzouki

That’s terrible to hear (not the zouk, which sounded lovely, but the story). Did you ever recover any of the stolen instruments Nigel?
  13. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

I’m a huge CT fan, and IMHO the show can be almost sublime at times but a complete dud at other times. I thought the show last week was in the latter camp (with some exceptions). I’m especially put...

Re: Jeremy Kittel Band featuring Josh Pinkham

Thought I’d bump this threading give a shout out to Josh Pinkham and his amazing mandolin chops. I saw them for the third time since the release of “Whorls.” They had the full 5 piece band last...
  15. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

If you ever met Chris in person, he’s a very down-to-earth nice guy. It’s true, he’s a ham, and thankfully so. Many entertainers are wired that way. And yes, when you have his amazing talent, it can...
  16. Re: Live From Here Joni Mitchell musicians' birthdays

She really poured her soul into that performance (pun intended). Lovely.
  17. Re: Live From Here Joni Mitchell musicians' birthdays

Ditto. Aoife nailed it, and in her own style... I don’t usually sit through the entire show, but I did tonight. Excellent.
  18. Re: Article: Amid Constant Change The Mandolin Store Flourishes

Hmm, usually divorce comes after a trip to TMS.
  19. Re: Article: The 1978 Bob Givens Interview from The Guitars Frien

Thanks Scott for the interesting articles. The Guitars Friend read was particularly a blast from my past, since I took guitar lessons at Music, Strings, and Things in Birmingham, MI. I later moved...

    Re: Campanella Mandolin

Congrats! Those Campanellas are lovely. Would you be the same Yooper who recently sold your Brentrup?

    Re: Mandolin or Octave Mandolin

Mandolin would be a better fit. Whether you choose a flat top or an arch top octave mandolin, it’s voicing is similar to guitar and would be lost in the mix. You might want to consider a resonator...

    Re: Vulfpeck - Thile appearance

That was insane! And watching Chris dance off the stage afterwards with his Loar made me hold my breath. What if he whacked it or dropped it?!
  23. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

I like the leisurely pace. It reminds me of listening to Detroit baseball announcer Ernie Harwell calling the play by play in his relaxed southern drawl during my youth. Almost like a mantra that...
  24. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

Different strokes... I really enjoyed the jazz documentary.
  25. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

Not to mention his stellar mandolin chops.
