  1. Re: Borodin: Polovetsian Dance (Stranger In Paradise)

Nice one Martin, I do like the voice of your Vinaccia. Now if you just provide a source for Dancing Maidens, I'll be set.

    Re: Calace method exercise 52

    Re: Remembering Evelyn Tiffany-Castiglioni

That's a shame, I have brought Evelyn's arrangements into various groups I play with and they are always well received. We'll be playing a couple in Christmas shows, I am sure the audiences will...

Lovely work again Gary. No. 1 has just been torturing Pachabel's Canon, practicing for the Christmas show.

Should there be a link? Or is Brejeiro four minutes, thirty-three seconds long?
  7. Re: Please talk about your experience with the Mandola.

I have a Greek Sakis mandola that I am happy with, I was playing it in a group last night. I have mine strung as an Octave but it was built to be CGDA. I think it was one of the cheaper models, and...

Re: Saw the Trials of Cato yesterday

Thanks for that Caleb it was driving me up the wall trying to remember, and I used to play it too

FWIW I think the other two tunes are Welsh, the band didn't name them just the set.

Saw the Trials of Cato yesterday

    They were excellent :)

    Here's a taste

They got a very different audience in Cressing Temple Barns, almost as old as the barns themselves.
  10. Re: UK Luthier to build 4 String Solid Body Electric Mandolin

I think you missed a trick there, Bemuse surely ;)

I missed off the 'd' bemused is what I am when I pick up a 5 string.

Paint a couple of scrolls on it, and pour some tea over it as a stain.
  13. Re: If you could have any mandolin in the world….

I am really happy with my Nava archtop and for a different sound my Calace bowl back. There was a gorgeous part finished mandolin that I saw as I was passing a violin shop in Sorrento a few years...

Re: getting into the Italian style

Without wishing to derail the thread, how much of this music was played on a (tenor) banjo? I bashed out the Wedding Tarantella on mine on Monday, since the TB was what I had with me.
  21. Re: Tenor Banjo suggestion for beginner Mando player

I ended up putting heavy gauge strings,on .014", .024"W, .034"W, .046"W and that has cured the flop for me.

Since this is in the vintage section, I use an old 1923 Vega F style, which seem to go...
