    Re: Skaggs

That is one of the sweetest sounding mandolins I've ever heard, just love its tone - I'm sure his playing gets it out of it.
Agreed, Ricky is a genuinely humble guy to dismiss his own ability that...

    Re: Carpal Tunnel Surgery

Here in the UK the treatment was free (excluding taxes). Three years after the operation I've never felt any of the symptoms again.

  5. Re: Proper form for playing B major shape chords on mandolin

4 4 6 7 is not only good for sliding up and down the neck but it takes little effort to make minors and sevenths.
  6. Re: I pulled the trigger again. Hope this isn't a blank this time

Hey Brick, I've had two operations for carpel tunnel, it was a very positive outcome. All problems solved and no negative consequences. Any operation can create anxiety, but I can assure you this one...

    Re: The “Intermediate “ problem

Hey Don, there are a stack of bluegrass backing tracks for free on Youtube which are great to sharpen your improvisation skills on. Even the tracks intended for specific tunes can be great for...
  9. Re: So I tried to improvise for the first time, live in a jam ses

Most weeks I have an evening playing with a friend. He pulls out songs I've never heard, but so long as I can figure out the key I play along using scales. This has always been the basis of...

    Re: The Hot Seats

No,our church is full of icons. This was an old Methodist chapel in Wales that is now only used for gigs. But the pews etc are still in place, which adds a nice dimension to the show.

Hi Ivan, look in the "other buying options" section - it's £8-50 new with £1-50 postage. Worth every penny.

    Re: Ronnie McCoury

I have come to the conclusion there are two features of Ronnie's playing that give him a distinctive sound - apart from his excellence in every other aspect of playing the mandolin, he is...

    Re: Punch Brothers new Album

Was lucky enough to meet Sarah Jarosz a few years back and while I chatted to her Alex was a real gentleman keeping my wife busy - otherwise I'd have heard the tap of her foot. Great player.

The new Del album is excellent. Didn't know about the Travellin McCourys one - thanks for the heads up. Ronnie's playing is better than it's ever been.

    Re: Punch Brothers new Album

I took a "non-mandolin" friend to see them a few years back who often criticises musicians for self-indulgent fret fiddling (though fiddling isn't the word he uses :) ).
    He was completely won over...

Thanks for that Mike, despite numerous attempts to search for information I found it impossible to work out the age. Thinking it could be a couple of decades even older only adds to my pleasure.

    Picked up
