That's a beautiful instrument.. I have a 1929 style B that is my favorite thing. It has a beguiling clear chiming tone. I imagine yours will too.
Great to see a little Martin Mandolin love on here.
My '29 style B is a bit of a snob, and doesn't have anything to say, but the '59 style A says HBD gramps, as do the c.1925 style 1 uke, and the...
The tension you would need on the E at that scale length would for sure be a string buster.
A baritone uke makes a usable OCTAVE mandolin with some judiciously selected nylon classical guitar...
Simultaneously dark and jaunty?

I had a Mainland Ukulele Baritone tuned in fifths with high tension classical guitar strings that worked great for sing alongs.
I don't know if a tenor body has enough volume to resonate adequately.
Not that I've been following, but this 2015 Finnish punk blast always seemed like the best possible Eurovision song:
Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät - Aina Mun Pitää (Finland) - LIVE at Eurovision 2015:...
Piggybackin on this for stringing up the old Martin cant tops..
I too am on the GHS A240s, which are OK..will try to remember to try the La Bella S&S tenor Banjo set!
Currently trying out a light...
I am quite taken with my two Martins, a '59 style A that's not without cosmetic flaws, and a '29 style B that's as near mint as can be expected ..
I don't know if you have to focus on more recent...
Some years ago, I was having lunch at a mom and pop falafel joint. Pop ran a satellite TV service out of the back, and a huge TV was playing this sequence:

Dick Dale was a force of nature, and should be remembered here as a master tremelo player!
Also, the scales and techniques he used to build his surf sound (not including the guitar, reverb and amp)...
About 10 years ago, I walked into a kebab place for lunch and was completely floored when the 40s comedy with midgets, camels and bellydancers that was showing on the TV suddenly turned into the...
21129 would be 1953 according to http://www.mugwumps.com/cfm_date.html
In my opinion, these are great instruments, and that is not a terrible price.
Thanks for not laughing at my butchery, John!
I think I'll take another pass at it, there are also some bare spots (gouges) on the back and side that I'm still building up. You were right about the...
So I've been working on this for a while, I picked up a can of Behlen Stringed instrument lacquer at a woodworking shop, some lacquer thinner at the HD, and a variety of fine sandpapers at an auto...
Thank you Greg. More great tips.
I post my noob question, and two seasoned pros give me concise and friendly advice with no bluster or attitude.
Thanks to you both for the excellent info, and yay...
John,
That is exactly the info I needed, and confirms what I gleaned from my internet wanderings. Yes, finish was pulled off in small flakes along with the sticker. .
You seem to recommend a very...
Hattie,
I picked up a pretty trashy style 30 Mando-Lute from 1924, and I think it's a very cool instrument. The sound is somewhere in the direction of a carved top in relation to a Martin (my ref...
Hi
I have a 50s Martin Style A with a nasty sticker scar. What to do?
Seems like I'll need to mix up some shellac and fill the divots..then what?
I am not an experienced instrument finisher, but...
The style 20 worked well for Bill Bolick!

First my mom, then I hung on to my grand-dad's ukes for years, and after another move trying not to damage them, I resolved to learn to play them, and another sloppy amateur musician was born. It is...
U.P.,
I play Uke and did so "seriously" for several years before moving to mandolin. They are very similar seeming but very different instruments. The beauty of a fifths tuning is easy...
LOL now you're scaring me! Thanks for the update.
Having acquired another cant-top Martin, with a useless case, I am more interested than ever in this alleged Harptone case run! Any update?
thanks
Sorry - delete, never mind. Move along please..
