Greetings, Lynda and welcome to the Mandolin Cafe. As per Forum Guidelines, we try to keep commerce out of the Forum so as long as participants discuss information about the instrument only, we'll...
  2. Re: Just to put myself on notice for some accountability...

I'm on the other end of this journey. I started 21 years ago at 40 and though I'll confess I had hoped to be exponentially better at playing than I am now with all the hours I've put in practicing,...

    Re: No more EXP74's?

Suppose their testing is probably like how I do mine. 96.9% of the results are based on cold facts and thorough research.
The other 13.1% is just stuff you make up.

    Re: No more EXP74's?

Here is how the Mandolin EXP to XT conversion works out. I've also attached the other acoustic family instrument spec sheet FWIW.

  7. Re: 5 string electric mandolin string info

    Thomastik JS110 Jazz Swing 10-14-18fw-23fw-33fw-44fw.
I've used these frequently, throwing away the 18 (G) string. They work great, but they are double the price of the D'Addario Chrome series....

Re: Playing a five string vs a four

I'm with Daniel. 5-string for me is a mandola with an extra E string for melody, all my chording is based on 3-note chords on the lower three strings, half-muting the remaining strings. If you're...

    Re: What does OP mean?

I kept getting email solicitations from my Wells Fargo bank suggesting I not suffer from FOMO any longer, and they could help me finance my dreams so I wouldn't be missing out. After about the 4th...

    Re: Who makes custom strings?

Of course the biggest problem is the need for mass market. I talked to D'Addario when I was working with them on some custom strings a decade ago, and even when you know someone inside, the answer is...

    Re: "Super" Brand Ovation Mandocello

Ovation never distributed an import mandocello, just the USA made in Connecticut which was closed in 2014. I believe they even stopped making custom mandolins and mandocellos even before that. There...

  14. Re: Are Lilliputians allowed to sell on ebay?

Excuse the literary humor, but looks to me more like the work of Jonathan Swifts' "Big-Endians."
  15. Re: Which higher priced F style models have solid wood scrolls?

Perhaps we can temper the discussion with a higher degree of civility. For some, experience is everything, for others it's all about math and most, a smattering of each. That alone opens the doors to...

Re: Fender Tele Tenor at NAMM

I just looked at my Eastwood Custom. It does have the center block to under the bridge, so I'm not sure which it qualifies as, full or semi.

Eastwood stop exhibiting at NAMM 3-4 years ago. They...
