  2. Re: First Video of The Mandolin Store new location

I was thinking the other day about the loss of Stan Jay and the legacy of the Mandolin Brothers store. While that hole in our soul can never be filled, I think Dennis Vance and the Mandolin Store...
  3. Re: Which of these two Mandolins would be better?

A couple more advantages for the Army/Navy style - An adjustable bridge which will help you dial in a comfortable setup and the neck joins the body past the 12 fret. More playable neck!

Re: Chop - hold/release or just mute?

+1 for what John Ritchhart said! Sometimes I'll use several percussive techniques over the course of a single song (or even a single measure) depending on the tune and what other players are...

Gigs Cancelled - Health and Safety

I just had two gigs cancelled for this Saturday. I organize a band that plays a St. Patrick's Day show every year, and as part of our "world tour" we play at a number of retirement/nursing...

Here is a red one that is allegedly in stock at time of posting here. No financial interest - just trying to help a brother out!

Re: Resonance of a fiddle vs mandolins (wow)

Glad to hear about your visit to Morgan Music. I think they are one of the real 'hidden gems' of music stores. I've made the trek down to Lebanon several times under the cover of a family...

    Re: Professional Mando Names

So far, I've never named an instrument. But, I did notice an interesting acronym could result from my new blue Fender Alternate Reality Tenor. Maybe not so much a name as a title is in order.

Re: Need advice on how to set up for looping

Hello. You will need to use some sort of pickup on your mandolin and an amp to hear what is going on. You would plug a cable from your mando pickup into the looper, and then another cable connects...

Re: Alternate Reality Fender Tenor Tele

Let the gouging begin! I just saw a listing for a Fender Tenor Telecaster on a popular instrument buy-sell-trade site for $100 over list price.
This really is no fun at all.
  19. Re: “one announcement we're privy to that will rock the industry”

From where I sit, the return of Steve Carlson to the mando-universe is important news. Add to that that he's coming back with what looks like a big step forward in amplifying an acoustic mando,...
