Re: Sheet Music w/Lyrics and Chords

There are several fakebooks online which contain chords, lyrics, and the main melody line. One only has to come up with your own alternate melodies or improvisation.

Is this what you meant by...

Re: Listing of 3-string chord shapes

Not sure if this was linked to yet by Scott or someone else, but it is my go-to resource for mandolin chords.

For 3 finger chords, just use the bottom three string sets (G, D, A) and leave the E...

Re: My band asked me to stop playing guitar

My trio doesn't have a guitar either. We use mandolin and voice (me), piano, and bass. Works pretty well.

  7. Re: Don Stiernberg Quartet Online Concert Thursday 5/7 at 8 PM CS

My take also. In 100 minutes, there were only 5 videos of Don's music (5 songs). Four with his quartet (likely all Studio 5 copyright since they were hosts) and one with him and Jethro. There were...

I tell you what, there are some GREAT things coming out of this social distancing period!!
  11. Re: Don Stiernberg Quartet Online Concert Thursday 5/7 at 8 PM CS

Great tune! Glad to see the lyrics being sung also. Too often there are great songs where only the tune is played and no one sings.

    Very nice.

If you like tap dancing as rhythm, then check out Tcha Badjo and their guest drummer/tap dancer. Unfortunately, NMC.

    Re: "J'attendrai" Gypsy Jazz

The mandolinist is David Holodiloff, who is in California. He has some other great videos out there. Here is one that I have played quite a few times.

  14. Re: Jazz Mandolin Appetizers -- original tune names

I bought Don's Jazz Mandolin Appetizers a couple of years ago and find them a great practice resource. I had figured out that Savannah Stomp was an alternate melody for Sweet Georgia Brown (SGB), and...

  16. Re: Mandolinists RIOTING over unfair String License fee

If you think that's bad, you should see how bad the riots are from the 12-string guitarists, and sitar players. And harpists, OMG!!

Wow! I had never heard of her before. Thanks for posting.

I thought that the rule was that if a diminished chord all of a sudden appeared in a bluegrass jam that the jam automatically and immediately became a jazz jam. :whistling:
