Re: Looking at an early Kimble

Will’s early work was still pretty damn good. Make sure there’s a return policy and give it a go. :mandosmiley:

Re: Where are all the (new) mandolins?

It might serve you well to do significantly more research on the current state of mandolin building. CNC is used widely, to differing degrees, among builders. Collings has been a leader on that front...

    Re: Jumbo Mandolins?

For clarity, it's a mandolin. 14" scale with a large body.

Can't get the video to embed so here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J1SyDwWu3U

    Re: Jumbo Mandolins?

Here's my Nyberg. This model is not currently on his site. I worked with Lawrence to design it. 2.75" deep. I call it my mini octave.

  12. Re: Gibson Master Model vs Custom Master Model - advice please

I might pay $7k if I really liked the tone. But definitely not $9k

It’s reminiscent of the Goldrush model in a lot of ways. The Mandolin Store has also ordered a model they call the Cremona Rush. ...
  13. Re: Gibson Master Model vs Custom Master Model - advice please

^^^THIS!! I'm not convinced this is a true varnished Master Model. And $9k is definitely too much $$ for a modern, lacquer Gibson F5.

Re: Price increases coming soon or already here

The only surprising thing is it's taken them this long.

I doubt this has any impact on domestic builders since none of them play at this price point.
  24. Re: F5 Upgrade Guidance - Gibson, Collings, Northfield

I'm not aware of a Kimble F5 currently on the market but they have shown up in that range. There were recently 2 Duffs for sale at $6,800 and $7,500
  25. Re: F5 Upgrade Guidance - Gibson, Collings, Northfield

All three solid instruments. I'm not a big Northfield fan but I haven't played their latest high end stuff. There's a Collings MF5 in the classifieds for $5,900. They're always easy to move if you...
