    Re: Mandocello Amplifier Thoughts

This is true of ALL under saddle transducers.
For best sound a buffering preamp will yield a balanced tone without the spiky trebles that so many people find harsh sounding.

    Re: 8 string Uke

I have one - an Eddy Finn model with a neck that's 1.75" wide - like a guitar.
I have it strung up with certain gauges of silk'n'steel strings and play it as a downtuned mandolin.
    It's been...

    Re: Mandocello Amplifier Thoughts

I split the signal on mine between a Behringer bass amp with a 12, and a little Marshall. Sounds terrific. A PA speaker is a great choice, get a Yamaha or JBL for best quality sound.

    Re: Goldtone BZ-500 setup

No, zero frets should not be higher if the truss rod is adjusted properly. Why is that you ask? Well - once you fret it, is the next fret lower or the same height? I've been at the bench for 40...

Re: tone woods for Octave Mandolin

Go with mahogany. It's less expensive, and exhibits a terrific sound.

    Re: Just so excited!!!

As a general rule, a longer scale means better tone and tuning.... But, you do have to be able to play it.

Hey, some of us are busy. I've been making my nephews wait almost 2 years for custom guitars.

Re: Guitar strings on a GBOM?

Strings are not self aware, and do not know they are even strings - let alone know what instrument they are on.

  18. Re: What should i'l buy to clean the neck and the frets?

If you live near an Ace hardware, a Menards, a Lowes, or a Home Depot - you can find ALL the colors of Scotchbrite from super fine to rough as a wad of wood shavings. Don't bother with the green....

    Re: Feeling guitar bodied Mandocello

That is NOT what the page says - it says "solid spruce top". That does not imply carved, and I've run into instruments before with the same words - and it meant laminate.

    Re: 12 string half-mandocello.
