I would add thanks for that -but I have to live with it :mandosmiley:
  2. Re: Fine music broadcast from Glasgow, Scotland

Laura Beth was the mandolin tutor at Folkworks in Durham a couple of years ago, she taught us some great tunes, Kitchen Girl was one.

I doubt it will happen this year, sadly.

Re: Vinaccia vs Embergher vsCalace Video

Tricky, when I played them in order I liked the one I was listening to, then I started flicking between them and the Vinaccia & Calace sounded quite similar. I might have a slight preference for the...

Re: Inexpensive starter mandolin advice needed

FWIW I'd echo what Dagger says, I have heard a few decent Ozarks, I can't say the same about Staggs, the ones I have heard have been pretty weak and thin.

A lady I played with had an Ozark Army...

    Re: Baroque mandolin

Good looking and sounding instrument. I like the tune too.

    Re: Olga Egorova on mandola

I'd agree on both counts, I think she mentioned on one of the videos, maybe an older one, that she had been playing for 20 years long enough, and started young enough, to have 'natural talent' coming...

    Re: Tuner...not Tuners

I have a Snark Supertight, it's a bit more accurate than the 4 for a fiver straight from China ones I used before, but it doesn't lock on to a string very well. If I want more accuracy I use the...

Nice one Martin, I do like the voice of your Vinaccia. Now if you just provide a source for Dancing Maidens, I'll be set.

    Re: Calace method exercise 52

Hmmm, I think I would find it hard not to start on a down stoke, and since I am going into tremolo and thus picking a lot quicker I think it would be ok. As to what a modern players in the Italian...
