"If only Webb Straps of Monroe,Virginia still made mandolin straps. They are a very comfortable cloth strap with Guatemalan type designs and secure nylon body attachments. No metal,no leather....

    Re: A-String Buzz

Kevin, It looks like you are at least 2 hrs. or so from a number of folks who might be able to help. I think Chris Warner is in York, PA, Lou Stiver in Polk, PA, and there's a shop in Wind Gap...

Re: James or Allen tailpieces-anyone use these?

I think the most important think to note in regards to the James (I'm a huge fan) is the angle adjustment. I received a very nice higher end mandolin once that had the James and it was not adjusted...

    Re: Resonator mandolin repair

Can you post a picture of the area that needs repaired. I'm trying to picture how the force of the tailpiece caused the body to collapse. Here's a picture of one I used to own taken apart.

    Re: Shipping Costs

I received a mandolin (not a Gibson) shipped in a Gibson case (see photo). I was a little surprised to see it shipped that way. I was pleased that it was not damaged as the case was worth more than...

Re: crack in top, F model

    I agree with rcc5's suggestion/method.

I really like the f-holes on this mandolin, neat to see something different. Is this a custom build?
  10. Re: 10-4 Good Buddy! (Happy Birthday Jim Simpson)

Thanks Jim, Kind of you to remember! I miss our jamming too. I got to see a good number of our friends at Wind Gap this summer. It was worth the long drive. Best!

    Re: opinions on Weber Gallatin

I was asked to broker the sale of a Gallatin for someone recently. I once owned a very quiet Yellowstone that had me (unfairly) not too excited about Weber. This Gallatin changed my mind so much that...

Re: Mojo on beloved Daley mandolin

I like the looks of pickguards but prefer to play without them. I find that using an armrest changes my string attack enough that I don't get the pinky drag wear. Easy to try and easy to remove if...

  15. Re: What sort of instrument is this and what is it worth?

I bought one at auction once out of curiosity. I did a neck reset on it, not a typical dovetail neck joint reset, lol! This one had newspaper cartoons glued in for lining reinforcement.

    Re: Rubner Tuner availability?

This is a response I received yesterday from Kent George:

    Jim,

Re: Advice needed for this seam separation

To me it looks like the binding has pulled away, as in shrinkage. Is that what I'm seeing? I would certainly speak to the builder for their input on the matter.

    Re: Tuner replacements

I've been considering the 309's to replace the really slopping gears on my F5L. I wish the Grovers had slot screws (like mine) in the gear as well as slot screws for the plates. I suspect getting...
