Jig with regular fret saw work just fine for me. The template works for me too. Would not buy it just to cut one board. It's your money!

What do you see inside the truss rod cover?
I assume you are talking about the tone bars. If you have your bars fitted well it don't take much to hold them in place. I use these cheap clamps which serve me well.

If the top is straight from head to tail and the area of the bridge plate is straight, with just the outside edges being curled, I would glue it and never look back. Would like to see it finished.
