Re: Please allow me to introduce myself...

Hi Norm! Never too old to learn a new instrument - I took up mandolin at age 60, after starting guitar in my youth and putting it away for 40 years (work, family, and life got in the way.) Discovered...

Re: Sold my Collings and got a Pava

Interesting - I have a Collings MT, a Weber, and a Pava A, and they all play easily for me. I find the neck shapes similar enough to not make a difference. They are all wonderful mandolins, and I...

Re: 1909 A4 Gibson Factory Revamped

Same here. I'd love to have an early Gibson A-style mando. I don't NEED one, and don't have the money, but that doesn't change that I'd like to HAVE one!

    Re: Brought home a Buckeye!

I have wanted a Buckeye mandolin for awhile, just because I am a born and raised Ohioan, and I think it would be appropriate. You may have pushed me to make the jump, and pull the trigger on the next...

Re: 3 Point F-4 Torch and Wire

Living vicariously is cheaper than buying the instrument, but I enjoy the excitement that the person is able to get the instrument they are hoping for too….

    Re: Picks

If you want to experiment, there are two pick samplers travelling around the country (you can sign up in this part of the Forum) and you can experiment to find out what kind of pick you prefer. You...

Re: What if I bought the wrong instrument?

I have both F-hole and oval hole instruments - they are all wonderful, and oval hole and F-hole instruments DO sound different. I use my oval hole for more "folk"-type playing and some classical, and...

Re: Does mandolin improve guitar technique

I play acoustic guitar, and have found my mandolin playing has improved my guitar playing. Maybe because I am devoting more time to my instruments, but also I think the accuracy mandolin requires...

    Re: very old mandolin

I play my bowlbacks too, but you've never seen me! I'm also not as knowledgeable about all of the makers, I just enjoy them.
  17. Re: Of your favorite instruments that qualify for this site...

When I am upstairs, my Collings MT or one of the bowlbacks is played (they "live" upstairs.) If I am in the living room, I have more choices, and it depends on what I want to practice. If I am...

    Re: Late 30s A1 Gibson

I don't think it looks in terrible shape for its age, unless there are internal issues most things look to be cosmetic. Could be a gem or could sound awful.

    Re: Beginner Celtic mandolin

I second (third, fourth) the "buy the best you can comfortably afford and enjoy! If you go too cheap, you will end upgrading soon anyway (speaking from personal experience.)
