Re: Do You Play ALL of Your Mandolins Regularly?

Hmm, I always figured mandolinists need an F5 for bluegrass looks, an A5 for better sound, an A4 (or F4) for oval hole tone, a flat top cuz why not, two different flat tops, cuz you need the variety...

Re: Sam Bush playing something other than Hoss?

Isn't that one of the super limited run Gold Top F5Gs? I saw a sibling instrument in concert last year played by Brent Truitt in the Steeldrivers
  5. Re: Wanting to upgrade tuners on my Kentucky KM150

Any particular reason you want to upgrade them? The ones on my 150 work great, and for the price of tuners if you just save and double the money you could upgrade to a better mandolin
  6. Re: Another Reischman collab video from GMBR 2019

That was cool! Most videos I see of any group called a "string band" they usually play too fast and the instrumentation is all mush because the banjo player is careless and the fiddler plays over...

Re: Old dangerfield on a four string electric

Thanks! Either way, Bill ain't here and the bluegrass police don't have an Africa division, so I'm safe for now.... my only real complaint is that the E string is quieter (I hear this is common).
    I...

Re: Old dangerfield on a four string electric

Thanks! Ha! There's probably a few people who might say the same but about me......
Seriously though, I also like the body design, and I kinda like the look of the headstock but I don't like the...

    Re: Olga Egorova on mandola

She's amazing! Her covers aren't always a style I usually listen to, but her presentation makes me enjoy it anyway

    Re: New original: Beaufort West

    Thanks Simon and Rush!

Dave, sorry you didn't like it, but that's the thing about filming on location, it's cool and special but the sound is not the best. I hope you can still learn to enjoy...

    New original: Beaufort West

    https://youtu.be/XTwh8NrvoiM

Here's a tune written for and played in a small Karoo town called Beaufort West. This town always gives me ghost town vibes, which was inspiring the tune.
    I hope you...

    Re: 2020 NAMM Show Report

    Re: Waterman
I have a Waterman ukulele, and I would not recommend it to a serious musician. It was fine for a couple months, but the neck bowed, and the bridge is pulling off, and now it's pretty...
  22. Re: Played a couple Kuun mandolins, some impressions

Here's one of the videos I had my brother film on my phone while there. Because the strings were so new I couldn't keep them in tune, so the E course is a bit off, but in the words of Mr. Skaggs'...
  23. Played a couple Kuun mandolins, some impressions

So yesterday I had the privilege of meeting Murray Kuun, and playing some of his instruments.
I went specifically to make demo videos of the two mandolins he has in stock, which we did, but I'll...

Re: Jake Workman, new album Landmark

Is it for guitar only or all the instruments?
    Sounds like a worthwhile investment....
I started working out along the coast on mandolin yesterday
