    Re: Trading

A while back, I put forward the notion of a temporary trade of mandolins, and many members got all worked up about the dangers of instruments being lent. As your hypothetical situation has...

Re: Port Orford Cedar as a soundboard

My custom Weber is POC. It started tight and bright. After 5 years I wan no longer noticing the brightness. I know the “mandolins don’t open up” crowd will be filled with disbelief, but it changed...
  4. Re: Would anyone be interested in a Blue Chip pick shootout?

I’ve found the same mid range punch control with going to thinner BC picks in same shape and bevel.
I’ve had every incremental TAD from 35-65.
A less costly tech material to examine is Miller picks.

Fiddle first, starting at age 11.
  6. Re: Would anyone be interested in a Blue Chip pick shootout?

If you’re chasing tone, try casin and thinner BC and other “space age plastics “. Don’t forget the forbidden tortuga....
I’d ditch the cheap plastics, though ymmv.

Most “slurs” round here are about banjos and accordionists! LOL:grin:
  9. Re: How to clean and polish Varnish on my New Pava Pro

They really are a nice item. The rest is attached to the tailpiece. No clamps. It takes a special technique for efficient string changes, but works great once you figure the process out.

  10. Re: How to clean and polish Varnish on my New Pava Pro

My Weber is 13 yrs old, varnished. I have spilled lots of beer dribbles and a few (Lot of)whiskey dribbles and lots of sweat. Never polished, only damp wiping. It looks stellar. If you want an...

    Re: Help dating Harmony Monterey?

Step one, ask Harmony on a date, something low pressure, like a lunch date. Step two play it cool, don’t let her know you are way into mandolins(save that for the third date or later). Perhaps just...

    Re: Buy without trying

I’ve purchased three mandolins, all sight unseen. First was a cheap mass produced model, and I got what I paid for. The two in my signature were both commissioned customs, and worth the $$ and...

I burnt the heck out of my index finer tip just the other day. Fortunately for me, it was my pick holder hand, and doesn’t hurt holding a pick. Whew!

    Re: Red Bear Lil’ Picker

I haven’t a few RB picks. I like casin , but find it is a bit a bit too susceptible to wear and deformation, not the case with the BC, so it doesn’t get to be my daily pick.
