Re: Advice on how to learn sheet music?

Practice reading without spending alot of money. You can print free Mando sheet music from the web.

You are learning to read it. Do not do all your reading with an instrument. Pick up the sheet...

    Re: The Kentucky

The KM-380 has an A-5 style body. Kentucky’s KM-380S was a previous model and identical looking. These were above the beginner models in features, and price and have been discontinued from production.

    Bass Sounds for Beginner

As I jam with a beginner, he’s new to learning any instrument. Jon has been listening to bluegrass his entire life, and just purchased an Eastman MD-315.

After a month or two of trading off melody...

Re: Playing a five string vs a four

8 strings works for me. When learning to play, hearing two D strings side by side referred to as THE D string sounds like a failure to communicate. One course or pair of D strings is plural. ;)

  11. Re: Would you sacrifice tone for playability?

For anyone not being graded, or judged in a a contest, it’s up to the individual to decide. Let’s consider a solo- where tone is not buried in a mix of instruments.

Do you want the audience to...

    Re: Go To Jams Now!

Actually, I've been wondering if there's any hope for a beginner getting a jam started. Anyone heard of such a thing?

It's got to be tough for some of the oldsters to put up with newbies.

    Internet Radio Stations?

What Internet stations have mandolin music? The Bluegrass Junction on Sirius only works (for me) when I’m driving one of the company cars.

Any favorites for BG, or other types?

How to limit feedback w/ single condenser type? Is it finding a ‘sweet spot- level’ that works?
