This is a great list of songs! Thanks for your input everyone! Many of these are also in my set list abut there are a number of them that I'll have to look up. I'm sure I'll come up with a few less...
Thanks Beanzy! Benjamin Bowmaneer is a great one. I might try it with the pace and energy picked up a bit... Thanks!
Hey all!
I've been performing at a lot of Renaissance faires, pirate festivals and such lately. I often play Irish/Scottish/Welsh (sometimes English) folk songs and am always looking for...
That's my thinking on it as well. Safest bet is to just get it fixed. Thanks again for your input John!
Yeah, the photo is a little deceiving but the separation does run dead center so I'm not surprised it's the seam. I'll update once I get a chance to speak with Colin over at Fretted Frog.
Here's an update:
My repair guy wasn't in yesterday so I took the mandolin over to McCabe's in Santa Monica. The guy there said its a small separation on the seam probably due to dryness - there's...
Thanks John,
That helps clarify the seam separation thing. I figured if CA worked for either situation I'd just do it and not worry about it. I'll take it in today though and at least determine...
Thanks for the advice Don. At this point, sanding anything is out of the question. If it came to super gluing, I'm confident that I can apply the stuff without gluing my hand to the item. I strongly...
Thanks for all the input! I have a good guy I can take it to at The Fretted Frog in Pasadena. I need to bring a tenor banjo in for repair anyway so I'll have him look at this while I'm at it... Just...
Thanks for the advice John! I'll skip the sanding bit. Glad to hear I don't need to do that. Hopefully the attached picture is good enough to see whether it's a seam separation or a crack...
...
Hey guys,
I just noticed a hairline crack on the back on my mandolin about 5 inches long running directly down the middle. A guy I was gigging with who used to work in a guitar repair shop told me...
Lots of great info from you on this thread foldedpath. Thanks for that!
I've done a bunch of research on flutes but had only briefly come across Tipple and Casey Burnes. I'm definitely going to...
Thanks for that tip Paul! I do plan to transition to flute at some point so I'll check those out... Looks like you make some really great whistles! I'll be looking to upgrade to a wooden whistle...
Whistles are great! I'm loving tin whistle. The ridiculous bit I guess referred to the fact that I got into irish music with my tenor banjo and then bought a bodhran and a whistle.... And switched my...
I play Red Haired Boy on mandolin as a bluegrass tune. Working on converting it to banjo as a trad tune... Im having fun with the tin whistle. Its pretty easy to pick up and will probably translate...
Great stuff you guys. Thanks so much for your input!
I also think that mandolin lends itself better to bluegrass just because it gets lost sometimes in irish trad depending on how big the session...
Hi folks!
For those of you who play bluegrass and Irish trad, I'm curious about your thoughts on which is more difficult, more enjoyable, culture of a bluegrass jam vs Irish session, whatever,...
Yeah that's something I might try as well. It would be easy to just shove a couple socks in there and see what happens. If it works I can find a piece of foam and cut it properly.
Just got back to see all these replies. Thanks guys! I really appreciate everyone's input on this.
I'm going to try the LL Baggs Venue DI for now. I really want to keep the acoustic sound. There...
Yes, this would be the easiest solution. I know there are a lot of loud bands out there who play with acoustic mandolins though. My guess is that they're able to do so because of a preamp, DI box...
The band just ordered an IEM system, so that should help. I'm close on the volume level. We're a loud band but we're not Motorhead, so I just need a little more to get the mando where it needs to be....
I think I might give this a try, along with almeriastrings' suggestions. Anybody have thoughts on this Baggs Venue? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VenueDI
Good stuff! Very helpful. Thanks almeriastrings!
Good idea Paul. I'm not using a preamp right now. I'll look into K&K's. Thanks!
That's great David. Thanks for posting that link!
