Re: Convince me of the value of strict DUDU picking?

nothing is strictly DUDUDU. Generally down on the beats and up on the off beats. Of course there are exceptions. Its super hard to keep timing trying to go DD just because you are hitting down stroke...

    Re: Yet another blonde F4...but

Mandolin Bros used to have I think a 1915 pumpkin F4. Mint condition they were asking $15K. They probably didnt want to sell it.

    Re: BRW History

I have #27 from early 2000s. Ben was great to deal with. About 10 years after getting it, He did a re-fret for only $200. He offered to buy mine back for the price I paid for it towards a new one. I...

  15. Re: What’s the oddest mandolin related gift you’ve been given?

We give fun presents for Christmas. I got this oddly wrapped gift and before opening said "What is this? a scary clown statue playing mandolin?"... Sure enough, it was.

Re: BRW Mandolins / Ben Wilcox Magazine Article

No. He stopped building and no longer has a business license. I called him a year or so ago for refrett and maybe exchange. He once offered me a good deal and was curious to see he would still do it.

    Re: Carbon Fiber Mandolin Raffle

    5,000 X $20 = $100,000. I know auctions are made to make money but that's a very bad bet.

Re: Gibson F2 and F4 mandolins.

Mandolin Bros used to have the nicest pumpkin f-4 I ever saw.. I think 1915. It had all the vibes in excellent condition. They really must not have wanted to sell it as it had a $14K price on it.
  24. Re: Distance between string pairs, the same or wider at bridge?

I have one of the harmony bat wings. The strings get so far apart by the bridge, it makes it hard to play - A lot of taper. But the string dont get closer to edges of fretboard.
