  1. Re: Northfield post on social media and their email newsletter

Hey friends. I bought that A4 Special and will post pics when I receive it on Monday.

I was so blown away by the A5 Special that I jumped when I saw this listed yesterday by Dennis & Zach - who...

    Re: Impressions: Northfield A5 Special

Strange, right? The last mando I played that all these years later I still hear in my head was a plain 2004 Collings MF in a nice shop. If I wasn't a tried and true A style fan, I would have bought...

    Re: Impressions: Northfield A5 Special

Quick update. Out of the blue, I heard from a well known builder that my place in the cue had moved up a full year. I needed the 50% deposit and for a brief day made plans to part with the Northfield...

    Re: Impressions: Northfield A5 Special

I think they do complement each other as well. Was able over the weekend to play a friend's nice MT2 just to do a comparison and feel that the A5 Special does sound to me a bit more woody - but the...

One of the reasons I like this gentleman is his perfect tempo and even touch. His sense of each song is so strong. I aim to be as good someday! :).

    Impressions: Northfield A5 Special

Okay, forgive the lengthy post, but I felt compelled to write something and sure do hope that all you friends will understand that I'm only doing this because I'm so amazed at the effect receiving my...
  8. Chords for Mighty River by Railroad Earth Help!

    Hi Friends,

Just wondering if anyone out there has figured the best voicing of chords to just strum along to this great tune? I can't seem to figure it out!

    Thanks!

    ;)
  9. Re: Pricing increases to Collings and Waterloo Instruments

I hear you, Doc. That said, I do hope that Collings keeps on its website the video Bill did about why he designed them and what went into building them. Really says something special about his...
  10. Re: Pricing increases to Collings and Waterloo Instruments

I'm so glad my MT2 came with the Collings case. They are so perfect, so exact, that only the MT2 will fit in it. Even the MTO will not (or so I'm told).

Not sure why Collings doesn't offer them...

Re: Not all Collings hold their value

Slightly different perspective from a long-time MT2 fan. I've probably owned 5-6 MT2s -- all purchased minty used through the Cafe -- over the years. Then, MAS would strike, I'd sell and try...

    Re: I-IV-V Chords?

Wow, Mark. I do believe you're correct. I'll order these ASAP!

I like Brad's easy going style, and really benefit by seeing a teacher demonstrate as he does.

    Thanks for this tip.

    Re: I-IV-V Chords?

Thanks to all, and especially Mark, for this great info.

Why do the I-IV-V combination of chords -- or any notes played together within those chords -- sound so "right?"

    I better bone up on...

    I-IV-V Chords?

    Hi Folks.

So I've used the G-C-D chord patterns to get pretty good at mixing them up (2,3,4 finger versions). I enjoy cross picking between them as well just to play with various melodies.

    The...

Any insight into a strongest pros & cons versus the JBB and using a microphone into the amp? I'm sure decent microphone runs at least $100, right?

Thanks for the advice so far!

Thanks to all who have responded. Seems like the EXP74s are a good choice. But Ivan's suggestion to try the GHS may be worth thinking about.

    MT2 String Options?

I've been playing EXP74s on my fine MT2 forever. I am now curious if a very different set of strings might be more appropriate for Celtic, folk, etc.?

Must be good bang for the buck! ;)
