Re: Opinion on strings for Godin A8

I do think, however, that for the time being, I will keep the cajun tuning (FFCCGGDD). I think it opens up tonal possibilities and makes it easier to play certain scales (like F minor). I will be...
  2. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

Good point. I don't have any electric guitarists playing with me at the moment so I don't have this issue. I would be curious to play with one, though, and see how different we can sound.

Re: Opinion on strings for Godin A8

I tried the shim trick last night and it worked great. I used a piece from a pack of medicine (folded to four layers), and now the mando feels great. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Re: Volume boost pedal question

I also use K&K pickups. I found that using an overdrive pedal with low drive (or gain) settings gives a very nice boost to the signal and you end up with a "fatter" sound. You can then use the volume...

Re: Opinion on strings for Godin A8

I think I will try that. Do you remeber how many layers of foil you have in? I read that some people use one business card and gets the job done.
  6. Re: Effects for use on acoustic amp or PA with K and K pickup

    Hello Josh,

I will refer you to thread I started a short while ago discussing the use of effects on an acoustic mandolin.

Re: Opinion on strings for Godin A8

Thanks Rodney. Was it fairly easy to remove the and reinstall it? How much did you raise it without strings buzzing?

    Re: Seagull S8 Owners Thread

It's a very decent mandolin. Easy to carry around. The tone is pretty good, much better than I thought it would be. The action is a bit high but I got used to it. I own the electric model, and the...

Opinion on strings for Godin A8

    Hello Mandolin Cafe users,

I recently acquired Godin A8 mandolin. This instrument is great. However, the action is a bit too high for my liking, even with the adjustable bridge set to its minimum...

Re: D'Addario Strings - Ask Us Anything

    Hello,
Is there a way have strings shipped overseas? D’Addario mandolin strings are hard to find where I live (Lebanon) so I am wondering if any of your vendors ship internationally. Thank you.
  13. Re: Yet another pick thread, primetone small triangles

The Dunlop Primetone picks have become my main picks over the past year or so. I use both large and small triangles (depending on the mood), and also the semi-round picks if I want to bring out the...

    Re: So...I'm stuck....dang MAS...

Here's what I say when people ask me how many instruments I have: "I have more than I need, and less than I want".

Mandolins are more addictive than heroin :)
  15. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

Thank you for this information. It's sometimes challenging to find pedals that work well with an acoustic mandolin, but it is certainly worth the effort.
  16. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

Exactly! I think it was Don Stiernberg who called the mandolin "an all-purpose instrument".

Re: Externally vs Internally mounted Piezo?

I tried the K&K pickup on my Collings MT2-O both with double-sided adhesive tape and glue. With the glue, the sound was much better, louder, and I had better control over it. I guess since the K&K...
  18. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

The K&K was recommended to me by couple of great mandolin players I took Skype lessons with, namely Don Julin and Steve Smith. Therefore, I never really considered buying or trying other pickups....
  19. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

The K&K internal pickup works very well with my MT2-O. I also have one on my MT (f hole ) mandolin and it sounds pretty good. The two things I would recommend is to glue the transducers instead of...
  20. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

    Hello Mandroid,

I am not familiar with the pedal you use. When I first started, I used a Zoom multi EFX pedal that worked fine. But as my ears got used to the sound of an amplified mandolin, I...
  21. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

    Hello Br1ck,

You make a good point and I can't say that I disagree with you. However, it all started with me when I needed to plug in to play live gigs (I was in a band with guitar, tabla, and...
  22. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

    Hello John.

I was not familiar with the MB so I checked out some videos of it on Youtube. It certainly is a powerful pedal and I am sure you will get lots of interesting sounds if used with a...
  23. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

Thank you Bill. The idea behind those 13 pedals was to try most the basic effects. Most effect pedals out there are some kind of variation on these 13 basic effects. I did not get into stuff like...
  24. Re: Experience in Using Effects on Acoustic Mandolins

    Hello OneChordTrick.

The Turnips Greens has a loop option which I use. Both the Turnip Greens and Cock Fight pedals have a switch that enable you to flip the order of the effects (i.e. overdrive...

    Hello Mandolin Cafe members,

I just registered with the Cafe and this is my first post. However, I’ve been reading posts on this forum for quite some time and learned a lot from the discussions...
