    Re: Eastman needs new strings

Thanks. I want to match the D'Addario Monels I just installed. I may try it on my next restring.

    Re: Eastman needs new strings

Anyone know where I can buy single Monel strings? I broke one putting on the new set and I'll buy a spare but would rather not break it up for one string. I tried just strings but they didn't have...

    Re: Eastman needs new strings

I'm not saying all of them, but surely many of the quality issues were due to illegal knock off versions of their strings being sold online. Who you buy them from can be as important as what you buy.

    Re: Fender medium-gauge guitar pick

I use that kind of pick for a guitar, but for mandolin, I want something with more backbone, like a D'Andrea Proplec or a casein pick. To each his own.
  8. Re: Strap for a Strad-ol-Lin? There's no strap button.

I put a button on the heel but ran a bootlace under the tailpiece for the other end.
  9. Re: Strap for a Strad-ol-Lin? There's no strap button.

But since I would be forced to removed the screw holding the tail piece in place, I just ran a boot lace underneath the tailpiece as recommended here rather than mess with the structure. I did put a...
  10. Re: Strap for a Strad-ol-Lin? There's no strap button.

BTW on types of straps, my Strad-O-Lin has a nice matching braided leather strap, but my Mid Mo M-15 has a leather boot lace, and my Morris has (*blush*) a used white cotton sneaker lace.[/QUOTE

  11. Re: Strap for a Strad-ol-Lin? There's no strap button.

Since I was given the Strad-o-lin and it's my number two mandolin, I'm going to install the strap button. I just have to go out and get a small bit.

    Re: Eastman needs new strings

I bought Monels while I investigate the XS/XT difference. I'll probably try the XS on my other mandolin -- as soon as I put a strap button on it.

    Re: Eastman needs new strings

XT and XS are both coated. Is there a difference?

    Eastman needs new strings

So, I'm looking at all the D'Addario offerings on Just Strings. I used to use J74s or 75s, but I know they've changed the model numbers. Does anyone know the difference between the XS and XT strings...
  15. Strap for a Strad-ol-Lin? There's no strap button.

I inherited a nice old blonde Strad-o-lin A-style mandolin. Despite being factory mass-produced, it sounds a little better than my Eastman, except for an upper fret issue on the E string. That said,...

    Re: Straps for A style

If you have the money, get a Lakota Leather strap. If you don't, make one from paracord. It's easy and fast. NFI.

It looks nice, but I could buy six of the other ones for that price. :) Thanks for the info.
  20. Best rechargeable LED music stand clip-on light?

    I'm looking for
    1. Sufficient light,
    2. Robust neck,
    3. Tight-gripping clip.
I see a bunch of them on Amazon, but most lack one of the above elements in their reviews. Anyone happy with their...

  23. Re: Low-cost cases/gigbags that FIT WELL for an Eastman 315

I bought one of these, also have a Gator bag. Both are good, not hard cases, but good, light and convenient with substantial protection.

I play in front of a mirror sometimes, but I think it's better to develop a sense where you can play without looking.

    Re: Mandolin stands

These stands are great! They hold your mandolin and it's not hanging there, it's fully rested and secured. I tripped over the stand with my mandolin in it once and it didn't go over.
