    Re: Cords on the ground

We're always standing in piles of spaghetti. My last band had a light cheapo fake oriental carpert that we would put down over the speaker chords where we could and that helped a little. The places...

So true ! Dont worry, if you gig out solo a lot you should break even right about the time your equipment wears out. :)

Re: Finally, a use for a banjo

Many of us have banjos. No real disdain for the instrument. They're fun ! This is just a good old fasion intra family ribbing. But they are loud instruments. Adding a sucky mando player to the band...

Re: Finally, a use for a banjo

This is proof that there needs to be better background checks on banjo sales. Open carry banjo is actually more dangerous than concealed banjos. But there should be a limit to the number of strings...

    Re: Tonegards

Im playing a Snark FG. Actually these days its a PolytuneFG. But I sympathize. Even though my tuner lives on the headstock during a gig, I'm always trying to read the logo on others' when they play.

Re: Is this a "crap" shoot?

Re: Is this a "crap" shoot?

Here is just an idea: Why not call The Mandolin Store and ask Dennis if he can match that. Maybe he cant and I'd understand but doesn't hurt to ask.

Re: For All Of You On The Southeast US Coast

We were so lucky to just barely dodge another one. As predicted, Dorian stayed just off our coast as a Cat3. But we had sustained tropical storm force winds (about 50mph) with gusts close to 80...

    Re: Mandolins "Opening Up"

I had a guitar that dramatically opened up once right during the second set of a gig. I actually played through the first song noticing the guitar seemed quieter and off somehow. Once I removed the...

    Re: Mandolins "Opening Up"

I think many feel it is true to some degree, but that the effect is very often overly exaggerated. And that it is relevant more for some instruments than for others. Many of the best instruments...

  20. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

I think its wonderful that many folks feel they can tell those subtle differences. And I think its equally wonderful (and better for me) that I can't. Its all good ;)
  21. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

I agree with you. The only reason I rambled on about the blind fold test is that someone said when they play a 10k vs 20 k instrument they notice a big difference in tone and playability between the...
  22. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

    A big difference?

I agree I may have exaggerated to make a point. Sometimes the difference in playing a 10 k and a 20 k is more like $9,950.oo in imagination. :) Im not trying to rile feathers....
  23. Re: Electronic tuner: guide, or unquestionable authority?

Not only what sBlock says, but also our sense of tuning even changes with age. So what you might think is in tune when you're 30 is different then what you perceive to be in tune when you're 60.

  24. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

The biggest difference between playing a 10k mando and a 20k mando is 10k worth of imagination.
