  1. Re: "Scrubs" theme cover (Superman by Lazlo Bane)

Aah, thanks for that! We used to watch that show a lot back in the college days.

My roommate got hit by a car and has been neurologically impaired ever since, another friend is struggling with...

Re: What's up with that truss rod?

Soooo, I just tried out a 4mm hex wrench with a ball end on the truss rod and guess what: It worked perfectly! After a little poking and wiggling it connected and I was able to adjust the truss rod...

    That one is priceless :disbelief:

In my case, at least someone put some effort into something, but this is just cheeky :))

Re: What's up with that truss rod?

Well, thanks for all the expertise!
I guess I'll give the idea of looking for an allen screw via the end pin hole a shot - It'll have to wait until Monday though, because I keep the Mando at work.

What's up with that truss rod?

    Hello everyone,

I recently received a so far unplayed The Loar 310-F-BRB Mandolin.

This is what I found when I removed the truss rod cover.

Quick reminder to update the instrument list in your footnote, Frankie! ;)

Great performance! Plus we get to see Tristan smile. Twice! (02:00 / 04:39) What a rare treat!

    Re: Warm up song

Home Sweet Home for me. But I also like Whiskey Before Breakfast and St. Anne's Reel.

Beautiful melodies, can involve all four pairs of strings, lots of room for improvisation, sound nice in every...
  11. Re: Advice/Suggestions on characteristics of an ideal mandolin st

You're welcome :) I bought it used from a private seller on ebay. It doesn't have a brand name (or anything at all for that matter) written or stamped on it, so no way of telling who made these.
  12. Re: Advice/Suggestions on characteristics of an ideal mandolin st

Thanks for your concern, Sue! Accidentally dropping the mandolin won't be an issue, since the velcro is very "sticky" and applied over a long surface area. And even if the velcro failed, the two...
  13. Re: Advice/Suggestions on characteristics of an ideal mandolin st

Alfons, I've been struggling with this problem for ages, so thanks for the hint! I'll try to find a strap thats wider, with more of a grip to it. I also like to be able to adjust my straps...
  14. Re: Distressed Hlavaty F5 nr.25 clip and pic

Not a big fan of "artificially" distressed instruments. But if I were into it, I'd have to say: Boy, this is distressing done right! It's got something, I must admit. Sounds great too. And well...

Jim, you really took one for the team there!
This reminds me of the resident evil games where the bad guy always mutates into some kind of monstrous abomination towards the end of the game:disbelief:

Re: Buying without being able to play

Eric, in most cases, buying in the US is not worth it for us EU citizens. Import fees, shipping costs and the EU VAT (the reason for the higher prices in the EU) will have to be paid upon import...

Re: Buying without being able to play

I totally feel you. So far I bought all of my instruments online without playing them first. And while I haven't had experiences that I would call outright "bad", I sure learnt some valualble lessons...

This is a cool idea for a thread topic by the way - shout out to the OP! :)
  19. Re: Luthier Websites - Browsing preferences?

I like nice pictures on a website. Sound samples not needed, as long as there's at least some folks showing off their instruments on youtube. John's website is perfectly fine in that regard. Nicely...

    Re: Eastman needs new strings

I can confirm that. The XTs feel like uncoated strings (and according to the website description they actually are uncoated - in contrast to the XSs).
So yes, there's a big difference between the...
