Is your higher G a wound string then? What gauges do you use?
I don't know specifically about your mandolin but here's a price list from 1978. It doesn't show a 1 series but I'd infer that a lower entry level model must have been added.

If you're thinking luthier built I'd suggest Tom (TJ) Jessen. I think his builds are the essence of deep, dark resonance. Maybe it has something to do with the redwood tops? Prices are very...
How did she like your Jesson & what did you think of her Clark?
Yep, mine has an Allen that takes either too so that's not a problem.
Secondary question. All octave mandolin string sets I find are phosphor bronze. If I want to try something different should I just look form guitar strings in the gauges I want?
Well, that makes perfect sense. Thank you!
I'm interested in trying octave pairings. If my G & D are .046 & .032 respectively, what gauges should I look to pair them with?
Like Jim K mentions, penned by good 'ol Pat Donohue.

And since this is a mando forum, Pat has been playing around town quite a bit with fellow Guys...
Well, what do I know? When I read that I thought there must be some difference. Maybe she just likes a heavier gauge than is available as octave sets?
I read that Sarah Jarosz likes guitar strings on her GBOM. Seems like an interesting idea. I'm currently using D'Addario octave strings, .012, .022, .032, .046. Is it as simple as swapping for...
"Hey Charlie, I think I'm happy for the first time since my accident

I'd buy me a used car lot and I wouldn't sell any of 'em

NFI but ther's a beautiful looking Cricket Fiddle f style octave in the classifieds https://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/134877#134877 (the builder is actually Tom Jessen by the way not Dan) It doesn't...
Another fan of TJ (Tom Jessen). He's currently in the midst of a F style octave build. No pictures on his website but if you're on fb you can look him up and follow along on the build. He just posted...
Just went to the TOH website & I'm not sure it says older warranties won't be honored. It just says the warranty as written on their website applies to instruments built after 1/1/13.
Well, I guess I have the best of both worlds, Bruce Weber signed instrument after 2013 that I bought new so it sounds like I'm covered warranty wise but I would be concerned if I had one from before...
Last I heard Bruce Weber was handling warranty work, when did that change?
Is that supposed to be something along the line of a Stroh?
I agree. That helps quell the urge right there. But if I were in the area I'd sure go look at it.
I have a serious crush on a guitar I saw a picture of Tom Waits playing in a music store in Cincinnati. It's a model I'd be interested in owning and it's still for sale (Tom didn't buy it). Even...
The way I understand it then is date, Oct. 2016, Octar #132 & that would be 132 total Octars made across all models through all the years of production. A rare bird
Congrats & enjoy. You can tell how many were made by the serial number. The original owner seemed to believe it was the last one made if I'm not mistaken.
There's been one up for sale for quite a while & now I see it's down. Did you buy it? I took a run at it about a year and a half ago but the seller backed out at that time. Eventually I had one built...
