  1. Re: Audio-Technica microphones on oval-hole mandolins - magnets!

That web site is the blog. Here's the "regular" site: https://www.myerspickups.com/

    He has several configurations.

I use the (violin chin rest/mandolin arm rest) clamp. I'd include a...
  2. Re: Audio-Technica microphones on oval-hole mandolins - magnets!

If you like the idea of the mic, Meyers makes a mic/preamp setup for mandolins. I have one on my old Gibson F4 oval hole and it sounds good. I bought my direct from Meyers several years ago and...
  3. Re: Stroboclip Tuner TL;DR Tale told by an idiot*, Part 765:

"More accurate?" You must be tuning a guitar. Someone earlier said it, "You spend 50% of your time tuning a mandolin and the other 50% playing out of tune." :)
  4. Re: Stroboclip Tuner TL;DR Tale told by an idiot*, Part 765:

I've been using the D'Addario Micro tuner for years. Personally, charging is more trouble than my once-a-year battery change. During gigs, I usually use the built-in tuner in the L R Baggs Venue...

    Re: LRTI surgery

I'll be 80 next month and arthritis is slowly creeping through me. Both thumbs suffer the most right now but it's showing in both feet, both knees and my left shoulder. I know the fingers can't be...

    Re: Speakers/Monitors (no mando content)

I can't remember all the brand names but I'll try to tell you what we use.

First, we use a Sound Town rack/road case. We modified to include an light and two power strips inside. On top is a...

    Re: Speakers/Monitors (no mando content)

That was one of the reasons we went to the wireless in-ear monitors. The youngest member of our band is 58 and the oldest is 79 and we're our own roadies. Some of that stuff gets heavy. I've...

    Re: Mandobird pickup replacement ideas

I have a solid-body electric mandolin. It had a "lipstick" pickup that I wasn't happy with. The space for it on the mandolin was triangular in shape like many Fender guitars. I contacted...

Re: Grommets vs damper on tailpiece

Yeah and you wanna know why I've never done it? I don't know. It's one of those things you put off for weeks or even months (or years) But, finally, you do it in 5 minutes but still don't learn...

Re: Feasibility of adding a pin point capo

It strikes me as sort of "gimmicky." If you just want to capo one or two strings, a spider capo might work. Sweetwater Music has them.

Re: 12 string tuned like mandolin?

Why don't you just get a harp guitar? That'll give you about 20 strings to 1) tune and 2) tune to GDAE. That seems to have worked for a long time, now.

  15. Re: What are the chances that a moderately-priced mandolin sounds

Over the years, I've found individual luthiers tend to make the better sounding instruments. They put their name on them which means you know who to thank or who to blame. In China, <Moderator...

    Re: Reverb Pedals?

I don't use a pedal. I only use a very slight bit of reverb and then only from the mixer. We're a small band and we're our own roadies. I handle the board so it's easy to make changes but it's...
  17. Re: Feeling mandolins are available for sale again factory direct

    Why?
  18. Re: Feeling mandolins are available for sale again factory direct

Six strings?? xx880107 in your eBay listing is a six-string mandolin. That's six single courses. Am I out of touch or did someone miss Sesame Street when they covered 8s?
  19. Re: Has anyone tune their mandolin a half step down?

I've heard that the Isaacs gospel/country group tunes to A=400 instead of 440 and they put out some of the best music around. Their harmonies are outstanding.
  20. Re: Feeling mandolins are available for sale again factory direct

"Factory Direct" doesn't sound particularly inviting to me in an industry that prides itself on it's hand-made instruments. Something like "straight from the shop" has a better ring to it.

Re: Tuner recomendation for full sun

Probably the best thing to get would be an LCD (liquid crystal diode) and not an LED (light emitting diode)screen screen. Usually, bright light doesn't affect an LCD as much.

    That tuner that...
