    Re: Weber Bitterroot F-5

I love the Weber tone and have played/owned some great ones. The only concern I would have is the neck profile. I find it to be too large for me but they can be perfect for the right hands.

Re: Tone guard for a mandocello?

I understand the hassles of custom work all too well but it's a shame that's not an option anymore. I love mine!

    Re: Postal Mandolin

I've seen Postal instruments over the years & find their aesthetic interesting though not enough to give one a try. I'd love to hear from anyone that's tried one.

Re: OM - rather loud in the lighter strings

I find OMs to be a little more sensitive to pick attack but also that the entry level OMs seems to have more high end.

    Re: Mandolin Gender

I have many instruments, some with names & some not. Any name given is because it simply seems to fit. My #1 mandolin is a Northfield Big Mon that I call Miss Maybelle. The F5 curves are feminine...

    Re: NMC, sort of

I would assume there's algorithm input behind the price drop but, if it's a price you're willing to pay, that seems like a win. I might be a little concerned about the instrument's condition from...
  9. Re: Ordered a Northfield F5S, Received a Big Mon Wide Nut by Mist

Perhaps there was a little karmic boost from making the honest choice  For me, the Big Mon tone is absolute perfection. I cased my others when I realized I was dusting them more than playing...

Re: Why do you play electric?

I play electric because I like to play blues & find bending much easier on them. I also like to use pedals.

    Re: Aged-tone?

"Aged tone" sounds a little like "aggressively styled" from car commercials. It's suggestive but subjective. I think of it as a dry vs wet tone. Dry tone being full with separation between lower,...

Re: Gig Bag for Austin Clark OM's

I appreciate the tip though it'll be a while before I have the OM to put it in it ;)
  15. Re: Looking for a good mid-level octave mandolin..

I think it's a question of what mid-level pricing means to you. I think you can find a good pancake OM in the $1500 range & the same for an archtop.
  16. Re: What are some of the best Mandolins that you all have played?

My Big Mon supplanted all my other standard mandolins. The tone is exactly what I look for and playability has been perfect from day one. She's opened up nicely at this point and completely cured...

    Re: Mandobird pickup replacement ideas

I have a mandobird with an Almuse pickup that sounds great. I also get good results from blade magnet pickups like Jonathan Mann uses.

    Re: Amp simulator pedals

I have an HX Stomp that I like. It's not cheap and there's a learning curve but it's super compact and very capable once you have it set up.

The MC classifieds are the only place I see any seller offering a 48 hour trial period. It's appreciated in a private sale but not expected.

    Re: 4 string octave mandolin

The Octolindo comes in a 4 string model. I had a Kala tenor guitar with a 23" scale that I tuned to GDAE but found the G would be pretty floppy. The distinction between a tenor guitar and an OM, to...

    Re: playing late and drinking

Though I don't drink anymore, I found playing music while drinking is similar to playing pool. There's a fine line between enough & too much and the drop off in ability is steep
  24. Re: Best power carving tool for arching and graduating tops and b

I have those too but use them sparingly. I caught my knuckle once and got a peak at the bone before the blood came. I'd be missing my index finger but for the gloves. Removing the guard makes it...
  25. Re: Best power carving tool for arching and graduating tops and b

I use a both Kutzall & King Arthur carbide discs with my angle grinder for roughing and can attest to the strain it puts on your hands. I use vibration dampening gloves and still can't go more than...
