  1. Re: Why do L&H Model A, B, & C owners use TI mittels and not star

I believe Caterina Lichtenberg uses Thomastiks and Hannabach ‘e’ strings on her setup. Trekel used to sell this as a package at one time. So there is some precedence for mixed string the way...

Re: Post a pic of your cat sleeping in your case

    Thanks for that Bob.
It's always hard losing a pet/family member. Boris was a Ragdoll and, like Birmans, very laidback and affectionate.

    Cheers,
    Bradley

Re: Post a pic of your cat sleeping in your case

188109This is Boris. He unfortunately passed away last month but I thought he looked good in his case and had to share. He liked to listen to and sing along with whatever I was playing. He also...

    Re: A Year With Calace?

I would subscribe to a Leone year. I've been picking at Leone's method and would welcome the focus on the style and technique.

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

True enough. Apparently the Cole is built with some unique patented method. Basically thin T shaped strips of wood between each rib to connect them.

Definately. I will probably venture out and...

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

I wasn't really too fussy about what wood my bowls were, but I have to admit now I think I am a fan of the maple bowls. The Calace has a much nicer range from warm to bright compared to my W.A. Cole....

    Re: Flatwound mandolin strings

I took a look back at my orders and it appears that I special ordered the Soloist set from SBM. You could probably do the same if you really wanted to try them out. I don't remember it taking much...

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

I had a happy find today. I just got this 1919 Calace a few hours ago. I don't know much of it's history but I'm happy to see that it's previous owner had strung it up with some unknown brand of...
  9. Re: Ottawa Canada Seeking interested players for mandolin orchest

I live in Vancouver currently, but I’m going to keep an eye on this thread as there is a strong possibility that I may be moving out that way in the spring/early summer.

Re: Thomastik Strings on a Pancake Mandolin

While I don't use the Thomastiks on my Sawchyn BeaverTail, I am using Optima Flatwound Medium Tension (.011 - .031) with a wound "A" so it should be pretty similar to the Thomastiks. I've had no...

    Re: Flatwound mandolin strings

I've been using Optima Mediums Flatwounds (Set 2135) on my flatback mando and I just recently switched from Dogal Calace strings to Optima Soloist Flatwounds (.010-.030 3050 L) on my bowlback. I'm...

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

I'm not sure if this counts as a bowlback of note, but I thought that I would throw it in here anyways. I recently picked up a W.A. Cole bowlback in Vancover, BC. It's in pretty decent shape, some...

Re: Wolle picks for clasical playing, help pls?

    Hi Beekeeper
Here are a couple photos of my Wolle picks. I am not sure if theses are from the ones I shaped or the ones I asked Trekel to shape when I bought them. Either way I hope it helps.
