Re: How to play mandolin faster

Dude you DO play fast! :))
I like the one about getting the fingers in the right spacing if possible 3-4 notes in advance. (mainly the shifting middle finger)
    Nice vid, thanks.

7 months now and still happy...

I found the stretching exercises at the beginning were not painful, just a lot of hard work.
There is a sort of twisting motion around the vertical axis...

    Re: Random Hippy Painting?

I just found this painting on a guitar in my house.
Personally I don’t like it. It makes the guitar look cheap.

I’m thinking maybe I need to lock up my other instruments when there’s a full moon....

I did about 3 months... I think it was mainly posture problems that put an end to it.
  12. Poll: Re: Poll for Song a Week Social Group Week #510

Anyone know what the timing in this jig is called, it seems sort of stretched out -I like it, I just wondered if there a name for it?
-when the timing becomes more like 123456, 123456, etc.

Re: Advice on how to learn sheet music?

‘Music Notes’ on ipad or Tabledit program both are free (enough) to learn to read.
Just set Tabledit on REAL slow and follow a random tune that you can find here:...

Here’s another transcription of the Sweeney’s Men’s recording. The first line is the flute intro, it appears to be in 6/8 time though the later part missing -cant work it out....

    Re: Hi from a newbie.

Whatever you do, don’t let anyone lend you a mandolin.
The mandolin is like a lover.
You play it just once and you wont have time for anything else.

  22. Re: Need some help from a French-speaking mandolin player...

    ‘Un monde qui s’avance’
‘L’amour et prières’ or better ‘L’amour, des prières’
    ‘Font chanter “La joie d’aimer”’
    ...are other possibilities.
