Re: Mandolin Brothers Book of Vintage News/ Photos?

I hear you. I am a librarian! I just figure it's much more likely for us to get the scanned catalogs than anything else.

Slightly off-topic, but I am at a university library, and over the past...

Re: Mandolin Brothers Book of Vintage News/ Photos?

I personally would love something like that. Just reading the old ads would be super, and scanning them and getting them online is the easiest way to get this content out there.

Re: Specific mandolins for old-time music?

Thanks, everyone, for the great answers. It always surprises me how much "conventional wisdom" I get in my head from Internet ramblings and it's always nice to check these things out with a larger...

Re: Specific mandolins for old-time music?

This was how I understood things to begin with. Except I sort of assumed that more people would want to play the snakeheads, as I understand they are supposed to be the better sounding old Gibson A...

Re: Specific mandolins for old-time music?

I was going to add in a "correct me if I'm wrong" disclaimer - should have left that in. :)

Maybe I just see a lot of ads for those old mandos that say "great for Celtic or old-time" in the...

    Specific mandolins for old-time music?

I have been wondering.... I understand that people tend to favor something along the lines of a vintage Gibson A for playing old time music. Is this mostly just for looks?

    Re: Lessons in SW Virginia?

Ever since I've been here, Rocket Music has had a building and a sign on N. Main, but has never been open. I guess they are hibernating...

    Re: Lessons in SW Virginia?

Thanks, everyone, for the ideas. I sort of figured that asking Ward Elliott was the thing to do, should of just done that at first - and I just went ahead and checked in with him.

    I am...

    Lessons in SW Virginia?

Does anyone happen to know of a good bluegrass mandolin teacher in southwest VA (New River Valley, ideally)?

    Re: Mandolin Cafe chord book?

Great, I had no idea that Mel Bay had published - but not surprising. I remember it as being a great book!

And I've been sending money to Elderly all month, won't hurt to give a little more....

    Mandolin Cafe chord book?

    Hello all,

This is a long shot, but I seem to recall having bought (10+ years ago) a magazine size spiral-bound black-and-white chord/scale book that for some reason I recall as being sold by...
