Re: new top F hole repair

Up until now I’ve always did the F holes with a coping saw. This time I decided to get the plate closer to graduation measurements and use the Xacto method described above and I’m pretty pleased...

Nice job! Better than my first for sure. I carved the top to thin and it eventually collapsed lol. Happy addiction bro

    Re: First Mandolin Build Thread

It seems like the rod needs to be bent further down then curved. Could be just the way the pic looks. I’m reminiscing siminoff blueprint here, I usually lay the rod on top of the print for comparison.

Re: Tab(s) on rough mandolin tops?

I use those to screw the plate down to the work bench and carve inside contour, then turn The plate over and do the same for outside rough carving

I used iron acetate on the walnut veneer on the headstock of this mandolin. Can’t say that I particularly like the grain pores but it was ok I guess. I’ll be using ebony on the next

After watching the vids, I wish I would’ve invested in the Holey Galahad instead of this thing now. It still helps with rough carving but looks like the Holey Galahad would’ve been better
