wow, that packing. I recently sold a squire electric with hardcase and I packed it better than that. I actually laughed out loud when I saw that pic.

those of us living in the UK would love to have this too dry problem. I'm lucky in the my music room (aka the spare room) is relatively well ventilated, but I know people who have to run...
duly noted, TBH I didn't realise it came as different sizes.
Well, I've gone from a no brand starter mando to this, but I'd say the strings on there feel almost too light, especially the E's. I am tempted to maybe try 12's there and standard E74 gauge for the...
Just an FYI, the octavius is not an octave mandolin, despite the name. It's actually a slighter shorter scale mandolin.
have just bought a 2003 flyde octavius from a friend and it probably would benefit from new strings, so was wondering what gauge I should go for? I will also be contacting fylde to get their advice.
This popped up in my inbox, could be a fun weekend: https://halswaymanor.org.uk/event/simon-mayor-mandolin-weekend/
Not too far from me, may have to see if I can gather together the pennies for it.
good for you, I started my 1st string change about 2 years ago, still have the E's to do.
just taken delivery of one of these (based on this thread) initial impressions are it's good. I don't have a huge amount of pick experience (being mostly a fingerstyle guitar player) but it's more...
that never occurred to me, I will do just that.
are there any brands of strings that are low tension along the lines of silk and steel or newtone heritage guitar strings?
tell you one things that's easier on guitar than mando, bends. 2 tone bends on mando, boy that stings!!!
caveat, I am not a very good guitar player, however I would say that, melodically, the mando makes a lot more sense (as said above, it's a more logical instrument). I would say the guitar is...
I'd be interested in getting some recommendations for some good, proven method books.
I can only thank you once, but this is pretty much exactly what I meant. I take it that, as far as anyone is aware, there is not a single source of what I had in mind. I am quite happy playing the...
good to know, what better ways are these then?
EDIT: for example, I am teaching myself fiddle as well at the moment and using, among others, the joggers, runners and sprinters books, so was...
thanks onechord, that's given me something to work towards.
I was wondering if anyone is aware of any structured courses for mandolin, along the lines of things like the RGT courses for acoustic or electric guitar or the classical grade system you get....
I used to occasionally look after my parents old dog, when I would play guitar he would always whine in tune. The cats I have never do this. Dogs clearly have perfect (if relative) pitch.
so I think I'm picking up the idea that you guys suggest I go visit TAMCO then? Will see if I can make a weekend trip of it.
hello all, new member here (with thanks to Scott for helping with the registration issues) with a question. I was given a cheapo mandolin the other day by a friend as I wasn't sure if I'd take to it...
