    Re: Help Identifying Galiano Guitar

Based on the photos this would not be a a Galiano produced through Oscar Schmidt.

    Cool looking guitar though.

    Re: Help Identifying Galiano Guitar

I have never heard of a Galiano Regent, but that's not to say they aren't out there.
    Pics would help immensely.

Re: 1984 vs New Duff F5 Style Mandolin

It used to be Mason William's guitar.

Mark and Tyler are incredible pickers.
I've met and picked with Tyler. Super nice fella and incredibly talented on just about any string instrument.

    Re: Monel strings

The Mangan monels have 99% of the volume of J-74's in my opinion. I noticed the Martin monels seem a bit more subdued.
I use the Mangan's on my '13 Vessel F5, and really love how they sound on that...

    Re: Banjo evil (nmc)

Now that's a radio station I could dig! Sounds like when I helped a buddy of mine in '93 at WRCT....Carnegie Mellon radio.

    Re: Iluak Ivory - gone??

I know last year they took some time off, and were back within a month.
    Hopefully that's the case again.

    Re: Point of Diminishing Returns

    Agree with all the above.

Stop and do something different, scales, arpeggios, etc.

I find a lot of my playing on any instrument relies a bit on muscle memory. When you get fatigued and start...

    Re: Best refret around Nashville???

I have worked through Steve at Cumberland Acoustics to get an EVO refret and custom pickguard in the past.
They did a stellar job. The action was perfect and immaculate work. They are a little bit...

Yes you do!!! It's a great and entertaining read.
  11. Re: Wrote me another song... and recorded it.

I think it sounds terrific...and I really like the vocal delivery....reminds me of Terry Allen. (check him out....interesting cat)
Mando sounds great as well as the guitfiddle.

    Good job man!

    Re: Matt Flinner on Duff

    Yep...Midnight on the Water.

It's a Luke Thomasson fiddle tune.
His son Benny was a legendary Texas style fiddler.

Re: Jazz 5 Roberts/Tiny Moore Mandolin

It is on Auburn Blvd. over by Del Paso Park.
There's a big office building there now. You'd never know it was there.

Re: Jazz 5 Roberts/Tiny Moore Mandolin

Very cool that you mention your Father playing at Wills Point Lynda.
From the few photos that have survived, it looked like a very happening spot for live music, and the pool out back for the kids...
  15. Re: Thoughts on starter fiddles/transitioning to fiddle

When my fiddle curiosity got the best of me, I picked up my wife's 30 year old fiddle she played in high school orchestra.
It's decent sounding, and more than good enough for me.
    I had a luthier...
  16. Re: Of your favorite instruments that qualify for this site...

My personal favorite for playing around the house, and with small groups is a Gary Vessel F5.
Superb tone, and handles all styles of playing with ease.

Re: Like this site but for guitar....

AGF and the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum are the ones I visit daily.

I tend to prefer the UMGF.

    Just mandolin.
  20. Re: Article: New Music from Mike Compton & Norman Blake: Gallop T

    The record is sooooo great!

Just got the book last week and have been learning the tunes, highly recommend both!

    Re: Waverly Tuners tight

    +1 on Tri-Flow.
I've used the one available in bike stores and it works great.

The last mandolin tuners I used it on was a '27 F2. Only takes a drop or two.

    Re: First pickguard Attempt

    I think it looks great!

Very cleanly cut and matches the aesthetic of the instrument very well IMO.

    Re: No more EXP74's?

I believe the XT's are taking over from the EXP's.

The XT's sound pretty good and just a little different than the EXP's. Like they're a little bit "broken in" out of the box.

Re: Tips for fairly new Mando players

    As has been mentioned PRACTICE!

I also would recommend lessons, you'll learn a lot, and having a teacher to bounce questions/ideas off of can help your playing dramatically.
