    Re: Resonators

Reviving this thread as I have a question regarding old Dobro/Regal resonator mandolins. I found a few on the internet that have no decal. Sellers present them as Regals and indeed they do look...

Ive been working on the same transition. Two things have really helped me in improving my right hand posture and technique. I put an armrest on my mandolin and I started lessons on Peghiead nation...

Re: Strategies for learning without teachers?

I started playing the mandolin as a side activity to playing guitar and slide guitar. So I already had a basis when I started. I have learned a lot from listening to blues mandolin players - that is...

    Re: Taj Mahal on mandolin?

To come back to Ranald's question:
I had a look at my Taj Mahal records and cds and found one reference to TM on mandolin: on 'Music fuh ya' (1977). I'll try to find out on which song(s) he plays...

    Re: Favorite Acoustic Amps?

I play in a bluesband including a drummer and bass player so need a bit of volume, even when the rhythm guys try to keep the volume down.
When we play half-acoustic gigs I use a Fishman Performer...

  10. Re: A trip to Hobgoblin Music, and a new Paul Hathway mandolin.

I had recently a very bad experience with TAMCO, found the owner unreliable and not committed to his customers. So no, I didn't go there...
  11. Re: A trip to Hobgoblin Music, and a new Paul Hathway mandolin.

Alas, I was at the Brighton branch... As I live in Amsterdam I'm now trying to find a shop in the Netherlands that stocks more than just one Eastman - always a problem in a small country like ours...
  12. Re: A trip to Hobgoblin Music, and a new Paul Hathway mandolin.

I had a similar expedition as Tim yesterday, comparing various flat top mandolins in Hobgoblin. I too was impressed by the Hathway: great volume, very nice sound on the low strings. It had a...

    Re: Fine Resophonics mandolin

Hello, my first post in this forum...
I'm interested in the Fine Resophonics mandolin - not the all-metal model but the model they produced earlier: wood with a resonator. If you have any thoughts...
