    Re: What's up with USPS?

I always ship mandolins by USPS Priority 2 Day Express. It's guaranteed to get there in 2 days or you get a refund of the shipping cost. They are more highly motivated to get it there in 2 days, and...

Re: Tascam DR-05 vs Zoom H2N

I think the Zoom wins for recording in a circle since it has mics on both sides. It can also be a USB microphone if you want to get into multi-tracking on your computer.

    Re: DYN-M Preamp

While it's discontinued, the Zoom A3 has an XLR input along with 1/4" input with a switch to select between mic, piezo, or magnetic pickups. It's got some decent EQ and effects (mic modeling,...

With instructor concert at the Station Inn on the 17th. Camp at the Duboise Center in Monteagle TN.

I'll be there. Hope to visit Carters Wed AM before camp. Who else is going?
  11. Re: NimbleFingers, Michael Heiden, and a Kimble

Yes they are both great people, and I bet Tai nailed it. Salt Spring gets played a lot in the campground at festivals in Colorado. Great tune.

Re: Bach: Suite D-Dur (BWV 1007), Prelude

Your playing is even more impressive than your stack of firewood! Thanks for sharing this music with us and your experience that led to it.
  14. Re: NimbleFingers, Michael Heiden, and a Kimble

Michael's setups are the best I've ever played. Thanks for all the photos of Michael's shop. That pic of Tai with John and David is so great!
  15. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

Good luck with the search. Anything in that price range in an A5 should be spectacular.

    Re: DYN-M pre-amp

I use a Zoom A3 with my Schertler pickup. It's the older one that has the XLR jack and no phantom power needed. The Zoom A3 has a mic input unlike most preamps, and you can apply phantom power to the...

Re: Always surprised how people send stuff

I know of a Nugget 2 point that was shipped from Europe to the US in a Calton case. The case was taped shut and the mailing label and postage attached to the case. The case still had the tape residue...

Good stuff, Josh. I find it helpful to work on string crossings too. These John Moore exercises are great. You really have to focus to keep the down ups straight, but they pretty much have every...

    Re: Multi-track Recording?

Reaper is free to try, but it is not free. It depends on people doing the right thing and paying for it so you don't need a dongle and it doesn't have all kinds of copy protection crap on it. Pay the...

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

I'd guess the one at Carters is #21 from this video. It's id'ed in the text accompanying the video on youtube. You could call Carter's and ask what number it is for sure. They all sound great in the...
  24. Re: My 4th mandolin build, 2nd one built from scratch

Can I put the first scratch on it? Looking great, Jacob! Can't wait to hear it.
  25. Re: What is the most mandolins you've owned at one time?

    It's a simple formula.

    n=m+1

where n is the number of mandolins you need and m is the number of mandolins you have.
