Re: The Mandolins and Beer Podcast

Yes Caleb, an interview with Caleb would be grand -- can't imagine a better old time band these days than Foghorn or a better old time mandolin player than Caleb.

    Re: Out of my league

Thanks. FYI the Paris experiment has been discussed on the Mandolin Cafe in depth a couple of times. You should be able to do a search for it. A couple of the strings were very long. As you might...

    Re: Out of my league

Interesting post. Actually in 1972 when I got out of the Army and back to graduate school I was (by my standards at least) relatively "rich" as I had both my GI bill stipend and a my grad school...
  4. Re: My 4th mandolin build, 2nd one built from scratch

Sounds like a plan I would like to try -- it must be a very thin finish. I also like the emphasis on shellac -- much healthy product to use then lacquer or varnish. Tru-oil is not so bad to use...

Re: If You Don't Perform In Public....

LOL. Well if it is a home budget debate I suggest that you agree to set aside each month what she pays for shoes and the hair dresser into a mandolin fund? Men and women often have different...

So after the tru-oil your are layering on shellac with some oil on the rag?

What steps are you doing for the staining of the spruce top? I thought that your sunburst looked nice!

    Re: 99' F5 Fern info

    That is an admirable goal!

And yes, owning a great instrument has to do with your ability to buy it! :)

Re: New Kelley A model violin style

I sure don't need another mandolin but I would love to add that one!!!

In addition to playing it I would just like to look at it every day and run my fingers over those sides and then inhale the...

    Re: Carbon Fiber Mandolin

As to the OP's question I think a nice sounding and nice looking carbon fiber mandolin (I assume it would not have play ability issues) for $1K would be something I would try.

    I keep remembering...

Re: Jerry Rosa & Rosa String Works

Agreed 100%! I have been watching Jerry's videos for years. Everyone who is interested in working on and repairing instruments (guitars, mandolins, violins, cellos basses and other things) should...

  17. Re: Mandocello solo and duo recordings playlist

I subbed your YT channel years ago -- it is an amazing resource! Always been curious on you record and merge your separate recording to a multi-track.

Re: Mandolins on Gibson web site?

Interesting comment. Two points: 1) I was on your website last week and the mandolins you make are simply incredible -- they are all so individual and different from each other -- but all beautiful...

Re: The Bluegrass Store - Columbus OH

That was the Columbus Folk Music Center (High St. just north of Lane Ave.). I kind of lived there when I was not in the lab in the Bio. Sci. Building.
