    Re: Looking to upgrade

    Collings MF Deluxe

(Or if you can find a used Gibson f5 Custom from TMS with the big frets...)

    I'm obviously biased ;)

    Re: non bluegrass mando

    I really enjoy Mandolin Orange.

    Greensky is pretty much rock/country/jamgrass.

    Caleb Klauder is old country.
  4. Re: Which Mandolin fits/compares to your Ability ??

On the weighted bell curve of mandolins, I'd say the peak is near the $5k mark... Because at the far ends are basically a $350 starter and a $22,500 Gilchrist, and you could basically eliminate the...

    Re: Kentucky KM-900 series mandolins???

The actual Saga site specifies Adirondack on the 1050 but they specify "Select Spruce" on the 950.

Re: Do you carry your own Microphone?

I bring my own mics, I have a Shure Beta 57 and a Beta 58. One for instrument and one for vocals. we usually use our own board unless the venue has their own sound guy, advanced board, etc.

Re: who is your go to mandolin store & why.

I've bought several mandolins from the Mandolin Store, and also from Cotten Music in Nashville. I have been really happy with their service, and setups.

    Re: overhauling an Asian import

A well respected luthier here on the cafe offers "hotrodding" services and he says he has the best results with higher end mandolins like km900s, 950s, 1000s, 1050s etc. It would be cool to hear some...

Re: Repair of chip in sunburst

Good luck. Post up the results when you do the work. Curious how it turns out for you.
  12. Re: Incremental Improvements in Kentucky KM-250 and 500

The 150 is a good first instrument, but speaking for myself, I would jump into a radiused board like the KM250 or 500 asap. Nothing against the 150, but I think the km250 is definitely worth it.

Just clicked full site and it's back.

    Thanks!

No idea how I would've survived the work day! :))
  14. Showing Mobile View In Desktop Chrome Browser

Maybe someone can help me out.

I'm using chrome browser on my desktop at work, and somehow the forum view looks like the mobile version now. Any ideas how to switch it back to normal view? On...

    Re: Collings

Collings produces some of the best mandolins out there, and I say without hesitation they set the bar for consistency. Their fit and finish is second to none. Tone is subjective, you may or not like...

    Re: Unused wedding for sale

This is definitely not the wisest ad, but maybe she's just impatient and creating interest in the instrument they plan to sell. She is potentially being honest at least... Maybe her finance is really...

Re: Anyone do any busking? Is it fun?

My band busks twice per year as a fun way to celebrate birthdays in spring and fall, and we invite some friends that aren't in the band.

We play in the artsy end of town with a ton of bars. Its a...

    Re: Pac rim mandolin wood

How good is it compared to a US made mandolin? That really depends on the make and model. Some of them can be really nice. I think a Kentucky KM950 would be good enough for most folks. Those are in...
  20. Success! Fearfully and Carefully Replaced My Pickguard- NMC
