Re: The pulse of a tune

For a jig, to get lift and a pulse you either want a metronome with a pattern that’s got hesitation, or just have it sound at the beginning of each measure.
In this case the pulse comes from note...
  7. Re: Mandolin playing mindset vs guitar playing mindset

And another thing. While you’re learning your thirty fiddle tunes, always have a metronome running and occasionally but not always a backing track. This will make you ‘think melody’ and get you used...

  9. Re: Mandolin playing mindset vs guitar playing mindset

Remember also that the cops aren’t going to come around to your house if you play your mandolin like a guitar.

Fiddle tunes, learn and record about thirty Fiddle tunes (no improv, rock steady,...
  10. Re: OM closed position fingering and pinky and FFCP

Also try using more pressure from your pick forearm on the instrument.

    Sweet!
    Love that tone.
It sounds to me a bit like a mountain dulcimer, with the bubbling resonance. Is that achieved with a certain tuning, in fifths but slightly different?
