    Re: NW Arkansas jam session?

Best jam is from October to the end of May at Brentwood Bluegrass show in Brentwood. It's like $3 to get in unless you bring an instrument, then it's free. First and third Saturday's. First one is...

Re: Re-fret for my '02 Fern

    Datanick.....
I love my 2001 Gibson Flatiron Festival. It's not signed by Derrington though. I had another Fern once that was a Derrington signed model but it had been repaired when I bought it. I...

Re: Re-fret for my '02 Fern

Thanks Robster. I kind of agree with you. I have a 2002 Gibson Fern and yet Dave Harvey (Gibson) was the highest quote. I have no doubt he'd do a great job, but I don't think your idea applies here....

Re: Re-fret for my '02 Fern

Thanks ya'll! I visited with John Gathright the other night. I'm going to have him do my work for me. He's close enough (2-3 hours) from me that he even said I could probably come down early enough...

Re: Re-fret for my '02 Fern

Thank you all. I've known of Mr. Gathright for a while. I called him this evening. Very nice guy. I look forward to him working on my mandolin.

Re: Re-fret for my '02 Fern

Thanks JLeather. Dave Harvey told me it'd be about 7-800 plus shipping, so I round that out to $1000. I have no doubt he's capable and does a fine job, but that's kind of high for me. I think that...

Re: Re-fret for my '02 Fern

Thanks George. It's amazing how much different quotes can be. I know some builders are probably more trusted and experienced than others, but I've received quotes at all ranges. Thanks!!

    Re-fret for my '02 Fern

Hello, I've been playing for years and have two mandolins I really enjoy. They're all I'll ever need. One is a 2001 Gibson Flatiron made in Nashville. I like it's tone a lot and it has the bigger...

Re: How many of you knew or knew of Don Brown?

Sort of off topic, but I spent a little time with Frank Ray this past weekend and played on his Loar. He shared stories about it and about Don Brown. It's a wonderful sounding instrument. Of the few...

  13. Re: tips on how to deal with a difficult audience

Simple...........Ignore them. I've done it and never had a problem. Not once. They're the ones being rude, not yourself.
  14. Re: Does anybody on this forum prefer a pick that is not a bluech

    Wegen............Love them!
They're the only ones I use.
  15. Re: Sorry, not mandolin, but guitar question. Please help

Thanks! I live just across the line from Janet Davis Music. I have dealt with them before as well. Thanks!

  18. Sorry, not mandolin, but guitar question. Please help

    Hello,
I've got a 2006 Martin HD-28. I want to replace the bridge pins from the plastic ones that came with it, to some better looking, and tougher, dressier ones. Any ideas where to order them? Are...
  19. Re: When were you guys first introduced to bluegrass?

For me, it's hard to remember a time NOT hearing bluegrass or traditional "hillbilly" music. My parents, from the time I was a toddler, took us to square dances almost every weekend. There was alway,...

Re: Were Flatiron's made in the USA in 2003?

    My 2001 Flatiron is #10828050, August 28th, 2001, #5 that day.
I asked Danny Roberts about it personally one time in regards to the differences in these and the F5-G. He told me that there was...

Re: Source for string damping gaskets?

Small piece of leather weaved in strings. Don't waste money buying those things. You can also wedge a piece of leather under the tailpiece to "quiet" things a bit. Problem solved.

The ONLY person I would have ever wanted to sign my mandolin is gone now and I can't get his signature anymore. However, I would have been very proud when people would have asked "who signed your...

    Re: Gibson Brothers....Joe Walsh's mandolin

Yeah........the banjo playing brother was gone. I can't remember his name since it was my first time to see them. Keep them in your prayers. They said it was a family emergency and his boy was in the...
