I'll also note for anyone unaware that the Mandolin Archive has a Wiens section.

While you're waiting for an answer here is every thread on the Cafe with the word "Weins" in it.

Re: Lyra and Vega vintage mandolins

OK, as nobody else seems to want to jump in here, a few similar but not exactly the same Vega mandolins have been sold recently on eBay. The prices are all over the place and none appear to be in the...

Re: Lyra and Vega vintage mandolins

Lyra was a brand name owned by Bruno in New York. Bruno was a distributor. I believe the Lyra mandolin was made in Chicago, most likely by Regal. That is an entry level mandolin that fails to sell...
  8. Re: Advice needed for this seam separation

If it was me I'd stay away from superglue but then again I'd be having someone take a look at it that knew how to repair it.

    Re: Waverly tuners

I just wanted to give a shout out to Stewmac. I needed one bushing for a set of Waverly tuners. They don't sell them so they sent me one free. That's the second time they've come through for me.
  10. Re: Question about a Flatiron A model oval hole

I don't remember seeing one of those here. I'm kind of surprised by it. Unless somebody changed the tuners those are Gibson Grover tuners. That kind of points it to Nashville. I'm confused by the...

    Re: Tuner replacements

The gear screws are generally easier than the button screws. I don't have a set to check on but I did go through this for Gotoh's. Regular hardware stores had the screws for the cog. The problem with...

    Re: Tuner replacements

The spacing on the posts should be the standard .906" (23.01 mm). You need to know if they are worm over or worm under. You may need to drill some new screw holes and the plate will hopefully hide...

Re: Cleaning up an old bowl back

Don't glue the bridge down. You can continue on this thread. It may have been in place when the instrument got warm and the top finish may have melted bit. Either way it should be placed correctly.

    Re: Woodstock

Actually the battery on a VW Bug was under the back seat. This was a pretty common occurrence. You didn't have to spill it, it was already there. I drove a 64 bug for years. As a matter of fact I...

Re: Kay Mandolin A style F holes Mand-8

Yes, I can tell when it was made and it wasn't made by Kay. These are circa late 70's-early 80's. It was imported along with hundreds of other mandolins with different brand names on them from Japan...

They released a CD set of all 36 hours. I was really excited to buy it but they apparently limited it to 150 sets or something.

  25. Re: Modern pickguard for a teens Gibson A?

Mandolins without raised boards came from Gibson with regular pickguards. Most of the abbreviate guards use the same two mounting pins in the neck. There should be room.

    I would think they could...
