    Re: Woodstock

I was ten years old. I begged my parents, but they wouldn't let me go. :)

Re: Luke combs even though I'm leaving

You mean where he comes in at about 2:17? Nice song.

  4. Stumbled across this great version of Cold Frosty Morning...

I've always liked Butch's version with David Schnaufer, but these two guys just sitting in the kitchen playing this well is quite nice. It's not new ('17), so I assume some have seen this before. ...

Re: D'Addario Micro Tuner - My Review.

I was not happy with the low-profile D'Addario tuner. I threw it out and bought a TC Electronics Unitune for more money ($29 at Sweetwater). I'm thrilled with it. NFI.

Re: Man I need a good tuner...

I was not happy with the D'Addario low-profile clip-on I bought, but I'm really liking the TC UniTune clip-on model. It works much better ($29 at Sweetwater.com -- no financial interest here)....
  8. Re: Need an Amp for my solid-body four-string electric mandolin

Thanks. I guess I have to get out there and hear a few.
  9. Need an Amp for my solid-body four-string electric mandolin

I need a new amp to go with my four-string Kentucky e300 with a Bill Lawrence hotrail pickup (-- yes this is more like the proverbial "little electric guitar"). I had a small Vox modeling amp but I...

Re: Man I need a good tuner...

I've been investigating these. The polymode makes no sense when you're dealing with courses, so I'm between the TC Unitune and the Peterson Strobeclip. It was hard to use the D'addario clip because,...

Re: Mike Compton changed my pick grip

As a general rule, I try to do whatever Mike Compton is doing and I'm not. Hasn't failed me yet. :)

    Re: Will Kimble "Trident" Mandolin

Maybe a little nod to John Monteleone there. Will does nice work. Andy Statman once let me play his. Very tight workmanship and even tone as one might expect.

    Re: Fender Tru-Shell picks

I love the three-star comment on Amazon: "This is what you get for drunk shopping. A 7-dollar pick." He's convinced me to try one. I love Red Bears, if this is anything like them I'll be happy.

    Re: electric mandolin strings?

In my experience, you might not want to go too light because you're compromising sound, especially with some of the electrics on the market.

Re: Man I need a good tuner...

I use the D'Addario mini and I'm not happy with it. The Strobo HD appears to be the most accurate, but the Unitune seems easier to zero in on actually tuning. At about half the price, it's probably...

    Thomastik Strings

A few people have recommended Thomastik strings to me recently. I know they're far more expensive than the D'Addario J74s I have always used. In the Cafe, I typically see them used or discussed with...

So really, her birthday was yesterday, so she is older than I thought. :)

    Born May 9, 1909.
  25. Maybelle Carter would have been 110 today.

No direct mandolin content but worth remembering.
