    Re: Percentages

I love the KK I have in my Bourgeois dreadnaught and I've used an ATM35 for my mandolin, when needed.
Sometimes I use the ATM along with the KK for guitar...Punch Bros and Sean Watkins used these...

Livestream Bach on the mandolin workshop

    Hi all,

I'm wondering how much interest there would be in a livestream class/workshop...?
I'm considering scheduling this sometime soon.
    Topics would include:

    Learning from influences and...

Re: Man I need a good tuner...

I have a bunch of the D'Addario microtuners and for the most part they live on each one of my acoustic instruments. Yes, a fresh battery is needed more often than you'd think, so you have to stay on...

Re: Question about Acoustic Amps and PreAmps

I use an ATM350 mic along with a K&K mini for reinforcing my Bourgeois Country Boy and it sounds great, going in to a mic pre (stand alone or mixing board pre) and ending up at a Bose L1...

Re: Balancing practice between two instruments...

Slow and steady wins the race, and trying not to get too far ahead of yourself are good things to keep in mind.

    Re: EXP's and Elixirs

EXP74CMs for me all the way, best I've heard and played.

The bright "new string" sound is really quite lovely, and in the next day or two settles into the beautiful sweet spot.

    I get two to...

Well, I love the broken Loar at Carter's...gorgeous tone, maybe not as open as some of the others but a truly wonderful instrument. I'd love to fly down there and play it in the flesh...

Re: Gilchrist Restoring the First Loar

If it's structurally stable, I'd play this instrument as-is, no restoration...it sounds great!

Carter's has another Loar, known as the drunken Loar with a big, not-well-repaired crack in the back...
  16. Re: So what is the "real" value of a Loar in today's world?

Grisman paid $550 for his first Loar, a Feb 18...this was in the 1960s, according to his interview with Chris Thile in Fretboard Journal.
  17. Re: So what is the "real" value of a Loar in today's world?

Thile and others have had to do major work to their Loars before they had them playing the way they wanted, i.e., intonation. That would have to be added in to the decision as well.

    I played a...
