    Re: Shelter-in-place (NMC)

Surprisingly (to me) I'm practicing a lot. Mostly while watching Star Trek Voyager.

Man that Janeway was a bad a**!

    Then I eat a lot.

My neighborhood has a "Last Man On Earth" vibe to it so...

    Re: I Miss Playing Live!

Before the virus out break the weather was pretty nice here in NYC.
And I was able to get a few unexpected days of busking in Central Park in.

Now with the strict lock down I won't even try it....

Re: Practicing Bach during the lockdown

    Beautiful.

I'm splitting my time between the Bach Prelude and a Vivaldi movement.

    Anything to silence the TV.

    Re: Feeling Octave Mando

I have a Feeling Mando guitar (F style 6 string).
It's well made for a cheap instrument. The wood is pretty good.
It sounds acceptable, no more than that.

    Hope that helps.

Re: looking for a small but good eq

My Behringer EQ700 pedal is a big part of my sound.
    7 bands and very inexpensive.

    Re: Gig bag for mandola?

A little too big for mine also. So I put foam inside.

    It's a nice bag.

Re: Viola to mandolin or mandola

My experience in community orchestras (as a cellist) is that the viola is a much sought after instrument in
    group playing.

We never had more than two or three players in that section, (sometimes...

    Re: F style Ukulele ?

Bruce Wei sent me this for approval.
Not much info there other than basic dimensions and woods.
19" scale is making me happy. My current baritone is 20.5" and just a little uncomfortable for me....

    I will.

He supposed to send me plans for approval soon. If it's worth looking at I'll post them.

    Re: Pickup or microphone?

I use a John Pearse transducer with a Behringer ADI 21 (or even just a simple EQ pedal).

It's an inexpensive solution and the amplified sound is pretty accurate IMO.

    Re: F style Ukulele ?

Just "pulled the trigger" on a custom (no inlay) F Style Baritone.

It's more than I wanted to spend but a got a good feeling about this guy.

Over two months wait so let's see.

    Re: F style Ukulele ?

I'm in touch with Bruce Wei and he will send me a quote for a baritone F model (custom order).

But looking at the Tenor specs, it's really got mandola proportions.

    That's what I'm looking for,...

    F style Ukulele ?

(Hope I'm posting in the right place)

I've been messing around with a baritone ukulele (tuned CGDA w/ nylon guitar strings) for about a year now. It's a pleasure to play and sounds very unique.

    Re: New Eastwood/Airline tenor coming

    Nice.
I keep looking for a reason to get a tenor and Eastwood has some good ones.
My Airline mandola is a thing of beauty and it needs a friend.

My instrument really groaned in pain when I tried heavier strings. Bad experience.

    Re: Hora Octave Mandolas

I have to push down harder than I would like to get a clean (buzz free) note.
    Nothing wrong with the setup.

I'm older now and don't want to fight with my instruments.

A friend of mine plays it...

    Re: Hora Octave Mandolas

I like mine. It's well made all things considered.

Mine is hard to fret cleanly. Don't know why.
It can be done but it's a lot of effort.

Tuners work, but they are pretty bad.
  25. Re: Yet another string thread, but for electric mandos!

+1 for emando.com strings. They last a long time and are very warm.
