    Re: Gibson F-9 repair project

I inserted a thin piece of veneer to see what would work to fill the heel gap. I had to use a little force to insert this piece.

    Re: Gibson F-9 repair project

This evening I decided to remove the fingerboard from the F-9 project to get a look at the dovetail joint. It appears to be a good fit and the neck is not loose at all. I may just plane the ...

    Re: Fretboard repair/install HELP?

I had an early Chris Warner (Gibson copy) that needed work. I had a nice pre-fretted fingerboard that I wanted to install. While the old fingerboard was off, I planed and leveled the neck and...

    Re: Gibson F-9 repair project

Wow! I read the thread on Adrian's rebuild of his F-9 project. I don't believe my work will need to be that extensive. I know that the mortise neck join ended sometime
    after the Siminoff period. I...

    Gibson F-9 repair project

I purchased this F-9 as a project. There were no surprises and it was priced right. The headstock repair seemed like a good place to start in terms of difficulty. I used hot hide glue and will see...

    Re: fretboard support opinion?

I've used Maple since that's what I used for the neck. I have a blonde Collings with a Ebony support. It looks cool in contrast.
  8. Re: Just removed my "Florida"...myself..with a coping saw...

I did the extension scoop my self. I used a dremel with the small sanding barrel. I did cover the surface to protect it. I've done this procedure many times over the years and feel pretty comfortable...
  9. Re: Just removed my "Florida"...myself..with a coping saw...

I too find the extension in the way and decided to scallop the extension on both of my F-5's. I guess I prefer the overall profile with the extension as opposed to the Sam Bush style.

    Re: Pickboy clown barf pick

It's hard to describe, and yes, that's what I've been using and would still be satisfied to use. I feel like the attack of the "clown" pick is what I like and the tone produced. I realize it's all...

    Re: Removing pick guard (glued?)

It looks like there are 2 small phillips wood screws in the lower portion that should allow easy removal. You could then glue this piece back onto the pickguard that you've already removed and put it...

  16. Re: Gibson F5G Mandolin Master Model / Darkburst / FOE $3,999

It looks like a nice example at a fair price. My first Gibson F was an F5-G, it stood above all the previous mandolins I had owned prior. It had that sound that I've had to revisit with my current...

    Gibson necks for sale

I see these necks show up for sale from time to time. Am I to assume they are leftovers from Gibson's Kalamazoo factory? Mortis & tenon joints, etc. Here they are offered from a seller in Michigan.

  19. Re: Gibson snakehead mandolins, seek info on variants

Thank you, that was helpful, I guess this statement sums up what I've discovered:

  20. Gibson snakehead mandolins, seek info on variants

Assuming my search skills are poor, I've been unable to find a clear description of the various Gibson snakehead mandolins ('22-24') as far as what models had blank headstocks, which had silk...

    Re: Hypothetical Wierd Question ?

Jacob, did the customer not want the broken piece glued back on? I would think you would only leave it off if you were also scratching out the name (like Bill).
