Re: last silverangel econo of 2019

I have one of these redwood econo models. Hugely underrated instrument. It’s one of my favorites to play, really great tone and super comfortable.
  2. Re: Going out of the country...personal item/carry-on?

Just to add to the thread -I’ve done exactly this (Flatiron flattop in a gig bag) many times on international flights with no issues. The rogue is small like the flatiron so you can likely stick it...

    Re: Stradolin or copy?

I know what you mean - that’s why I wondered about this originally, it didn’t have that style of f-holes. I didn’t know that all Stradolins do. Thanks for the info!

    Re: Stradolin or copy?

Ah, that makes sense. I don’t really know the history of these makers that well. This is the back of the peghead.

    Stradolin or copy?

I got this guy off ebay, no label at all except “made in japan” sticker on the back of the peg head. It looks a lot like the stradolins I see posted - same shape, pickguard, bridge and tailpiece. But...
  7. Re: 1922 Gibson Mandolin Production Estimate - By Model

I’m curious about something slightly related. Is there any information on whether Gibson paid attention to the wood quality for the different models? Does an A-4 have better wood selected for it, or...

    Re: Big Muddy bridge

I just found an inexpensive fret dressing kit. There’s a specific kind of file they use, plus a very straight bit of metal you use to rock against adjacent frets to see how level they are.

    Re: Big Muddy bridge

I have one of those that also had some buzz. It had a few high frets. Check hat if you haven’t already. It took me a few tries to level them. Also, I made one of the 11 hole bridges from Red Murphy...

    Re: Left hand numb?

Yes, I suspect it has something to do with my neck. I’m trying to watch the fretboard less - that’s a good suggestion.

    Left hand numb?

Iíve been playing mandolin for about 3 years now. For the past six months, Iíve started to feel some numbness in my left hand (usually my first two or three fingers) when I play. It goes away after I...

Re: Which bridge should I get?

They’re not adjustable but I’ve been having really interesting results putting Red Murphy’s 11 hole solid bridges on some of my instruments. Really changes the tone. You’ll have to make one, I don’t...

    Re: Mandocello question

I think thatís the same length as the Northfield octaves. They sell string sets for those, might try that. But double check, it might be 22 1/2, I canít remember.

Re: Mandolin tuning on a ukulele

I’m confused by this list of strings, and I can’t find some of the sizes on juststrings. You have the D (.0318) thicker than the G (.028w)? I’m assuming that’s not a wound string, since it’s...

    Re: Vintage Gibson oval hole

I have one of these as well - 72767 iirc. I think it might be early '23 depending on which number you like. But, same here - this is one of the nicest instruments I've ever heard, including some of...

    Re: Flatiron Performer 1995/1996 volume?

I have a couple. They are surprisingly loud. One of the gents at Elderly called my first one “a little cannon”. I like them.

I’m interested. I’ve been trying to build one of my own. It’s hard! I think a small neck A style would be great.

    Re: short scale mandolin

I have a travolin that I use for, well, traveling. (http://www.travolin.com). It’s really tiny. It’s a 13” scale and I think a 1”, maybe 1 1/8” nut. Easily the smallest mandolin I’ve ever seen. Not...

Re: D'Addario Strings - Ask Us Anything
