    Re: Homemade Casein Picks

The OP asked that we move this to the Equipment section. It has been moved.

You need to look at all the opportunities Jim. You've got the makings of a strap empire walking through your backyard.

    Re: What is this mandolin?

Whoa, it's not a Shmergel Devastator but it's damn close. I'll give the best description to Ray(T) on this one only because I've heard the others before.

    Re: gibson f-model mandolins

The 60's and early 70's were not golden years for Gibson F5 mandolins. Then this happened. Then in 1987 Gibson bought Flatiron.

    Re: The Gibson No.6069

I think the OP's can simply be glued.
  9. Re: Does anyone have a PDF of E-Mando plans??

You should take a look at the ones that Andrew Jerman makes. They are excellent.

Re: Martin 0-18T8 8 string tenor

With the courage of the ignorant I was building these from Harmony arch top and flat top tenor guitars in 1967-68 using off the shelf Harmony mandolin parts. All I was trying to get was the high four...
  11. Re: What's this stringed instrument called?

That is a three stringed beer can guitar, a variation on the cigar box guitar concept.

"Awesomely Played! 3 String Guitar Made Out Of Beer Cans! Great One Man Band!"

If you want to make one...

    Re: What is this part?

I might buy the mute idea if it wasn't for that screw sticking up in the air. It sure as hell isn't a sleeve guard that's for sure. Slimt should be happy that screw wasn't pointed down.

    Re: What is this part?

It looks like someone seriously overthought a way to kill the overtones that are sometimes heard in mandolins. A strip of leather threaded through the strings would do as much if not more and...

    Re: Tenor Guitar Tuners NMC

Or you could go all the way to Waverly banjo tuners.

Re: Tuners - replace or repair advice

Eric, those are Grover tuners. You've entered an entirely new world.

You have a few options as Grover buttons may or may not be available as sets. Chances are someone might have extras of those....

Re: Tuners - replace or repair advice

The fake Gotoh (Saga) button stems measure somewhere near .148 round to round and .115 flat to flat. There my be a very slight variation in size.

Re: Tuners - replace or repair advice

I've never seen the fake Gotoh's on a Weber but I guess it's possible. I have a few of each button if you can get those dimensions on a digital caliper. I don't want to send you the wrong one. Beyond...

Here's my final thought. This might not be as old as the OP thinks it is.

Re: Tailpiece busted - is this normal?

The price and quality of these are all over the place but I generally go for the Prucha tailpieces sold by Greg Boyd.

    Re: Gotoh Replacement Tuner Buttons

You have two ways to go, maybe three.

You can replace the broken buttons.

You can replace all the buttons.

You can replace the tuners with real Gotoh's.

I'll send you a Personal Message.

    Re: Gotoh Replacement Tuner Buttons

It appears you have the Saga "Fake Gotoh" tuners. How many buttons are broken?
  23. Re: what glue to use on 70yo mando w/ previous repairs?

First, could you post a picture of the instrument and the repair? Not seeing either makes this guesswork a little harder. The glue to use depends on what was used to put it together in the first...

This site says they have the screws in nickel.
