Re: Reverb to start collecting tax IDs

“But you have to include the gain on personal use property? “

Yes. There’s a lot of guidance on these activities on the US Treasury/IRS website.

Just so you all know, the laws on capital...

Re: Reverb to start collecting tax IDs

you could, but then again, is it worth the risk of being audited? I work in this field, and I have had more people running at me with questions since this notice came out than anything. I may have...

Re: Reverb to start collecting tax IDs

There are a lot of rules around gains and losses, and deducting them from income. You cannot deduct the loss on personal use property. Businesses can deduct losses on sales, but not individuals. ...

Re: Price increases coming soon or already here

I don't think that any dealer has a couple dozen mandolins in stock these days. Are we talking a couple dozen Eastmans and Kentuckys? Stores like Elderly, TME had at least ten higher end mandolins...
  5. Re: Open Back / Old Time Banjos - Comparisons to Mando Builders

Great instruments inspire you to play. I hadn’t touched a banjo in a while but bought a nice Pisgah Possum off Reverb last week. Strung with nylons, hide head. Light and very plucky. I’m kind of...
  6. Re: Open Back / Old Time Banjos - Comparisons to Mando Builders

Someone needs to buy this one: https://www.pisgahbanjos.com/product/banjo-2002/

Patrick and his crew make great banjos, and they are very social as well as civic "conscious". The entire shop is...
  7. Re: Open Back / Old Time Banjos - Comparisons to Mando Builders

Glen Carson does the engraved inlays for OME.

There are only a handful of people doing engraved inlays: Will Seeders, Pharis Romero, Kevin Enoch, Bob Anderson, Glen (who may have taught a lot of...
  8. Re: Open Back / Old Time Banjos - Comparisons to Mando Builders

Add at least 6 months on that timeline. I’m still waiting on something from this past summer. The engraving is done by Glen Carson, so the necks are sent to him which adds to the timeline.

    If...

Re: Price increases coming soon or already here

It's lack of inventory and enormous demand coupled together. I had a dealer ask me politely not to pay in cash. He wanted trades. I had to laugh out loud at that one, but it is now not the first...

Re: Price increases coming soon or already here

Collings has no MAP. The price is the price. What the ad is telling us, from that dealer is that if you buy it in 2021 the price is $5800. If you buy it in January it will cost you $275 more. ...

Re: Curt Mangan Strings - Wonderful

Curt worked at Ernie Ball for years. He knows his stuff. I have talked to him on the phone several times, and it's a small company. I think his daughter was doing his website for a while (she...

Re: Price increases coming soon or already here

I wouldnít hedge a bet on that happening. With the minuscule output of mandolins being produced the last two years it would take at least five years for supply to eclipse demand creating a glut. ...

Re: Price increases coming soon or already here

Guitars are actually more readily available than mandolins or banjos. But yes, lots more people are interested in learning to play. The projection for scarce inventory is through 2023.

Carved heel. Big upgrade. But even without that the new ones are close to $6k and several years out.

Price increases are going to be across the board, and I doubt there are other domestic companies who are going to be able to increase production anytime soon. Expect to pay more and wait longer. ...

Re: Northfield FS vs Artist series

You've just described the Northfield section of my collection. LOL. It's a create trio. I owned an F5S for over ten years, along with an F2S. Great mandolins, but the newer models are a notch...
