Re: Anybody planting trees? Share your stories!

As I was reading this thread, Longfellow’s Prelude kept going through my mind. Here are the first four stanzas (no mandolin content, though, unfortunately):

    Re: Collings MTO

FG is the coolest acoustic music store I’ve ever been to, hands down. I got my MT there several years ago. Nice folks too.
  6. If you think changing strings on a mandolin is a pain...

Went to the symphony hall last night to see some great trio pieces. As the harper (harpist?) was playing, I kept thinking of what a time she must have changing strings. Made me grateful to have...

Re: Quite ill with a trach and a feeding tube

Dan, just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the song of yours that was posted. I was also struck by how eerily similar our guitar styles are. Many of the little accents you were doing, and your...

Re: Sold my Collings and got a Pava

My previous mandolin was an Eastman 505. Very different neck shape and the Eastman had a narrower nut. A way different feel and a night and day difference in tone and sound, the Collings being...

Re: Sold my Collings and got a Pava

My Collings MT has a pretty sharp V-profile and it does take some getting used to. I once heard of someone having Bill Collings shave theirs down with some hand tools at the booth of a music...

    Re: Playing Solo..

I’ve only ever played solo since I know hardly any other musicians, and therefore never took the time to learn a common repertoire (e.g. fiddle tunes). I play many O’Carolan pieces, old standards...

Re: Accompanying a guitarists who tunes down

I mostly play guitar and keep mine tuned down a WHOLE step, and have been doing so since discovering this about 20 years ago.

Yes, part of it is vocal range. Many songs in G, C, etc. are just...
  13. Re: Guitar (not mando) Advice for what to do with it

That’s a cool guitar and from a maker I’d not heard of. I would personally keep it because it’s not every day that one is gifted with a beautiful guitar. You could always use it to explore odd...

That's a fine instrument that could easily be a lifetime keeper. Play it in good health.

  16. Re: Need some help from a French-speaking mandolin player...

Just a follow-up on this... My wife, son, and I learned this song and performed it over the weekend. It went over great. We ended up just doing it with two guitars since singing in a foreign...
  17. Re: I put new strings on and positioned the bridge myself

Many loathe changing strings, but I actually enjoy it. It not only feels good to be competent enough to do things for myself, but it’s part of the pride of instrument ownership to me. Kind of like...

    Re: Thank You, Collings

I’ll go ahead and praise Collings (again) too. The tuners on my MT were JUNK. The replacements from StewMac were JUNK. Collings ate the cost and sent me some Gotohs. Excellent service.

  20. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

That's brilliant stuff there and I actually laughed out loud when I read it.

I sometimes watch Marty's show on RFD TV. The level of musicianship with him and his band is just flat out amazing. ...

Someone should coin a term (like Godwin’s law, etc.) for when Thile gets mentioned and all hell breaks loose after.

I can relate to this. I recently drove through Nashville and the urge to visit all the fancy shops was barely there. I mostly could hardly wait to get home and play my own instruments.

My son and I took the Martin tour today. They had quite a few mandolins on display in their museum. Thought Iíd share some pics.
