    Winter has barely started.
    Guitar show sounds fun.

Gruhns was great too. I bought a baseball hat with their logo because...

The Mandolin Cafe board will be sending a representative from the daily practice committee for a surprise visit to your home to authenticate your mandolin progress.

  4. Re: Just to put myself on notice for some accountability...

You are almost exactly where I was when I mandolized. I lurked here first, then bought a mando and joined the forum, then learned to play mostly off utube. Maybe I was 55, I cant recall just now. I'm...

Re: What does a mando set-up cost in your area?

You're lucky to be in an area to find someone experienced in mandolin set ups. Around here the "experts" set up entry import guitars for the student market. We have a couple of decent guitar set up...
  6. Re: Gibson Master Model vs. Ellis F5 with all of his highest opti

At that price you really deserve to play them both. And enjoy the process.

And the individual mandolin you play from either brand may be more important than the brand itself.

    They will both be...

Re: Finally, a use for a banjo

This is proof that there needs to be better background checks on banjo sales. Open carry banjo is actually more dangerous than concealed banjos. But there should be a limit to the number of strings...

Re: Is this a "crap" shoot?

Here is just an idea: Why not call The Mandolin Store and ask Dennis if he can match that. Maybe he cant and I'd understand but doesn't hurt to ask.

  15. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

I think its wonderful that many folks feel they can tell those subtle differences. And I think its equally wonderful (and better for me) that I can't. Its all good ;)
  16. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

I agree with you. The only reason I rambled on about the blind fold test is that someone said when they play a 10k vs 20 k instrument they notice a big difference in tone and playability between the...
  17. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

    A big difference?

I agree I may have exaggerated to make a point. Sometimes the difference in playing a 10 k and a 20 k is more like $9,950.oo in imagination. :) Im not trying to rile feathers....
  18. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

The biggest difference between playing a 10k mando and a 20k mando is 10k worth of imagination.

Re: mandolin pickup comparison: K&K vs. Dazzo

Great job for the comparisons. For sure the mic is best and the Dazzo sounded much better than the K&K with no eq. But I hope my K&K sounds better than that after EQ--cutting the highs and lows. I...

Re: Original cost of a Lloyd Loar F5

Here's an eye opener I just googled (for whatever thats worth). Lets look at an average 24 year old white male buying a Mando from Mr Loar himself in 1924.

He would have been born in 1900. For...
