  1. Re: Blue Chip CT 55 versus Dunlop Prime Tone 1.4

So the Primetones were'nt for me so I now have 2 new Blues and will try to keep a close eye on them.
I use a TPR 40 which many will find too light but it works for me. I looked everywhere and it...

    Re: DW Stevens reverse mandolin.

I was introduced to Denny in the early 80's by a friend who was the first person I knew to have build his own mandolin and the inspiration for me to do it too.
Mid 80's I was building a hollow body...

    DW Stevens reverse mandolin.

Denny Stevens was a unique and very talented Colorado luthier who mostly made guitars but during his career but I've heard of the reverse scroll mandolin and this is the only image I've found of it....
  4. Re: Blue Chip CT 55 versus Dunlop Prime Tone 1.4

I've proven I can't be trusted with Blue Chips. Over $100 in lost picks so I have some Primetones on order.

    Moab

I'm heading over tomorrow if the roads are open.
Never been and wondering if there's much of a jam scene other than the official morning ones.

Re: What is the story behind the "scroll"

In reference to dhergert's assersion that the Tone-Gard effects tone, I would have to say a beer-gut to the back will effect it even more.
  10. Re: Gibson Must Now Face Antitrust Litigation in Heritage Case

Alessi mentions the Loar archtops of the 20's. So suppose someone builds a copy of one of those, an early L5? (it's been done). Gibson doesn't currently make that or plan to (unless by chance there...

    Re: NMC Bass preamp

    Hi, Mark!
I'm sure the Headway is top notch, but you have to see our campsite at Pagosa. Pretty primitive. And part of the concept is to be able to shlep the whole rig around the campground. The...

How much of a threat could Heritage be? I know John Sabastion plays them but I've never seen anyone else although they're obviously out there.

    Re: NMC Bass preamp

Thanks Brian. I hadn't seen those.
Doesn't look like it will blend a piezo and mic but still sounds like a good option. There's the Baggs Mix Pro that is supposed to do the blend.
    However I played...

    NMC Bass preamp

At Pagosa Folk and Rock and Roll Festival I met someone who played a uke bass through a Bose bluetooth speaker that sounded fantastic. She had a preamp but I didn't see what kind.
    So my wife Pat and...

    Pics from the Past

While there's a lull in the action, you might want to go to the Bluegrass section and check out Darryl's Post a Pic from the Past post.
I've taken an interest in the early days of bluegrass and...

Let's bring Prince into this discussion.
After years of thinking he was playing a Telecaster even with that horrible looking tortoise guard I just read it was a Hohner!
    To me that seems like...

I can have an over active imagination sometimes and I've imagined being the lawyer trying to defend the rise of the individual builder.
I would have 5 exhibits, a teens F4 to show where the F5...

Sticky: Re: Loar Picture of the Day

  23. Re: This just showed up in my inbox re: Gibson guitars

I actually want to see them do well. I support American made products (when I can). Just make good stuff without telling others they can't make them too.
  24. Re: This just showed up in my inbox re: Gibson guitars

You shouldn't let your CNC decide the shape of your instrument. If Northfield can make a nice looking scroll then you'd think Gibson could.
  25. Re: This just showed up in my inbox re: Gibson guitars

It's hard to imagine they would put any legal effort toward mandolins when they are basically ceasing production.
