Thanks all again! Sorry, regarding a luthier recommendation, I meant to add that I am based in Brooklyn, NY.
Thanks all. I think I will go with the James tailpiece - it looks like a winner.
I'm not sure I want to take my chances doing the replacement myself. Does anyone know a good person/place to get a...
After tearing open my finger twice while removing my strap I realized that the tailpiece on my 1990 Gibson F5L is tearing at the bend. It's torn nearly halfway.
After searching this forum I...
Please please please!
I just moved back to NYC from HK and I am dying to see this show! (how did I not know it was happening?!)
Hey, if you all are lucky I will post a link to some video footage I took recently in NY of Andy playing at one of his regular synagogue basement gigs. He has a new mando – the funky looking blonde...
I agree. An all-around great publication. Also, I was impressed to find it for sale in Singapore - made for great reading on the plane ride home.
I could not agree more. The line-up from that era is the reason I got into bluegrass in the first place. Man, those guys could do it all and they were a joy to see every time. Duffey’s singing gives...
Hal, lets get the facts straight. Baskin Robbins is 31 flavors. It’s Heinz that has 57 varieties.
Anyway, I’ve always thought of Thile as more of a Ben & Jerry’s kind of guy....
Rest in peace Charlie
The world has lost a great person and craftsman
I must say, I’m more of the traditional type and couldn’t handle that axe myself, but I do think it’s an extraordinarily beautiful instrument – a real work of art.
Barry is top-notch! Couldn't be any nicer or more humble and ranks among the most tasteful pickers. Awesome teacher too.
Good suggestion Scott. I'm gonna give that a try starting today.
Another fan here.
Try checking out Iron & Wine as well - "Our Endless Numbered Days" is my favorite.
I agree with bradeinhorn.
Nickel Creek's sound makes me want to claw my eyes out and I am very glad that Thile chose to head in the BG direction with the help of some bluegrass royalty. And...
bradeinhorn,
They do cover Ophelia, which I think is the Band tune you are referring to, but there is another clip online that is a White Stripes (Jack White's band) tune.
Anyway, I am soooooo...
Oh boy Repent, you must be looking to make friends on this site! Lol
Anyway, Sam’s singing is certainly not in the high lonesome style, so you have nothing to worry about.
let me just tell you all, I met this guy a few years back and it definitely aint stage lighting or anything else that maybe DLR look "off balance" on Leno. He is off balance.
Thanks for the review. I'm still having nightmares after watching that Leno performance, but I might buy this thing for the tracks without DLR singing. I don't think I would even dare to listen to...
I am a huge DLR fan. I think that he is one of the best rock frontmen ever.
But he lost the plot a long time ago, and if even if you stick him in front of the best band in the world these days he is...
S,
No arguing with that!!
Speaking of Thile and www.youtube.com, I did a search on youtube for Tony Rice and found a clip of a Merlefest jam. Everyone should watch this because it features every heavy hitter in the biz,...
Funny - But what a bargain for a genuine PRS guitar!!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
The Country Gentlemen's groundbreaking version of Baby Blue makes that a must-play in my mind...
That Bill Cheatham is hot! Thanks for the heads up.
I'm still waiting on the new mando album. But I can't stop listening to "On Air." What an amazing live album.
And Santiago, yes, you must see...
tommy,
I play a similar instrument. It's a C-7 but it doesn't say nouveau on the headstock, it says Epiphone AND Gibson.
